When sifu says, “This is closed door training already,” referring to Ba Gua kick training. Tiresome, painful, a joy.
I love moments like that. Every day something new, man, I can’t afford to pay this man what he’s worth. Maybe some day.

I’ll have to use that line on some students someday.

God **** it you all make me sick with your learning off masters
and closed door training! GAAAAAAAAHHHH!!! I WANT SOME!!!
Seriously though, you must be well stunned by this guy to write a post like that, and I’m happy for you you’ve found good training.
I only hope one day I will do the same.
Don’t get me wrong, its not like all we have is McDojos or anything, and the club I go to is quality, but no-one with enough knowledge to give closed door training. Although saying that, maybe I just haven’t been offered it ![]()
Never thought of that. ![]()
I know during the cultural revolution loads of masters fled to America, but does anyone know if any fled to England?
In this case I am not a disciple, only training with Master Chan Bong for almost a year now, but I’ve been training hard. Harder than I ever have and really studying the principles. I’ve learned a lot, my gung-fu has jumped tremendously.
So I got to class early and he’s training his two disciples with swords, actually fencing (he stresses the two handed sword but teaches fensing as well) and I go to the side to work my latest hand principles.
He calls me over and starts showing me kicking drills, looks more like balley if anyone walked in, but I understand the principle to the drills. When he said that, I felt very priveleages. But, being only 1 of 2 non-Chinese in the school (it’s in CHinatown), I have never felt anything being held back, just being shown step by step.
I never though masters truly existed before, just better stages of teachers … until I met Master Chan Bong. I don’t know how many poeple like this are out there, but man, it is a great experience. It’s the little things he notices, adjusts, corrects.
Hey man, I’m sure your teacher is fine. Make the most of what you have. Good training.

It is always nice to know that you have a good teacher. It is also nice to see some of the benefits of having that good teacher. Just to see the eficiency of motion can be jaw dropping. My last sifu was so efficient it was scarey…and very quick and agile, it was crazy. My new teacher is built totaly different, (5’6" vs. 6’4") but can do some amazing stuff as well. My new teacher has a better eye for flaws, which is good, now that there are only a few of us in the class, sometimes just me. When I get that personal class, it makes it seem like alot of the practice and hard work has payed off. I really enjoy the little things he will show me, the holds, counters, some push hands stuff.
