I’ve seen a few previews for the new jet li movie, “the one.” Apparently there are a hundred or so different dimensions, with a hundred or so different jet li’s, and when one of them dies, the remaining ones get more powerful. So the evil one goes around trying to kill all the jet li’s in the other dimensions, while the good one tries to stop him.
The good jet li’s choreography is based on bagua, while the bad jet li’s choreography is based on xingyi.
It’s got a cool website, too. It’s even got a downloadable “pa kwa handheld game” that I couldn’t get to work.
My beef is there’s just no good way to have a fight scene between two special effects versions of the same actor. So, the final showdown is sure to be disappointing. Earlier scenes may rock mightily, though.
It looks like it should be an entertaining movie, but until I see it, I am skeptical that there will be much actual xingyi and bagua in the fights. As a Jet Li movie, I think the majority of the fighting will be flying around and lots and lots of high kicks. Jet is very capable of showing many things, but it seems like Corey Yuen gets kick-crazy in his choreography.

I didn’t see much Xingyi/Bagua in the trailer. All Xingyi you’ll see will be “Go straight and fierce, fists closed” and all Bagua will be “Make circles and open palms”…
Well…the director said something like that..
You can’t guess much by only watching a movie trailer, but he used a weird Xingyi stance
-When it comes my turn…will you want me to go?
-For Democracy any man’d give his only begotten son.
