Texas, yes. Dallas, no.
If you ever come to Houston let me know. My Bagua teacher also teaches xing-yi and Tai chi. However, there is an all internal tournament in Dallas/Plano this summer. Maybe you’ll luck out and find some people in your area.
Thanks-
I’ll be sure to check it out…
A quick internet search produced this:

Is this the one you were talking about? It’s not in Plano, but sounds like it might be along the same lines.
Jim
yeah, that’s the one
yes that’s it. I could’nt remember if it was Dallas or Plano, so I put both. However, next time I see my teacher I’ll ask if he knows any good Xing-yi people in that area. He’s a pretty well known guy in thoses circles. Good luck with your search reguardless.
They teach Xingyi at the Gompa in Arlington Tx, which is DFW area. John Painter is known mostly as a Baguzang teacher, but his other Sifus teach Xingyi and also have studied with Master Henry Look in CA. They teach strong basics, and no flowery BS. the Sifu’s know how to use what they teach, enough said. If your interested send me a private message and I can give you more info. Basically, they focus on skills to fight with and are not crazy about lots of forms but much more on what is underneath the forms.
Yo, a guy in Richardson also teaches Xingyi. He is listed on Mike Pattersons website. I have not heard anything about him good or bad so who knows. You should check out anybody you can to see if you can get some good teaching. Here is the information:

I called him once but had a very difficult time communicating with him. You never know, he could be the real deal. I would check him out if you get a chance.
Thanks a bunch for the info-
Richardson is a little closer than Arlington. I’ll try to stop by there this weekend, and if you’re interested, I’ll let you know how it goes.

Ahhh, yes. No offense to anyone, but his English was just difficult to grasp. He seemed really nice, and I did understand him, but it was slow and he had a very thick accent. No problem.
Jim B - Of course I would love to know what you find out. You can send me a private message if you want to really discuss this matter in detail. I have found that people tend to pile on and start talking sh1t about teachers. It is so incredibly disrespectful that I hesitate to even speak of real people on this site. Do you have any previous MA experience? If so, any Xingyi?
