Who here uses wrist weights?

Who here uses wrist weights with practicing? Does it help you punch faster or do they do more harm (like ankle weights)?

We use them, they seem to increase speed and give you a little more power. For the most part speed.

ankle weights aren’t inherently bad for you - it’s the way you use them. Don’t run with them and don’t kick with them. The aerobics type lifting exercises are good to do with ankle weights.

Well, to each his own, but I just say NO to punching with wrist weights. I guess if you absolutely have to, hit something as inic suggested because you WILL over-extend your joints. As for kicking, if you want weight kick with shoes on. Otherwise say bye to your knees. And don’t even think about running with ankle weights.

btw, punching with iron rings is different because the weight is loose and it moves around. It doesn’t place the stress on your elbows that regular “wrist weights” do.

I think doing anything with speed with wrist weights will be very hard on your rotator cuffs. If you are talking about traditional arts and maybe doing some soft forms, slowly with wrist weights on I guess that’s fine. But don’t go full out with weight attached to your arms or legs.

You could have a friend repetitively drop an anvil onto your head from 10 stories above. This is also known as Iron Dome training.
