When did the current "10 Hands of Shaolin" replace the Northern Shaolin forms?

The thing that we do for comps some times, is give some forms a little flair if you will, keep it traditional… added a butterfly kick to our basic broadsword… goes in hand with the original move…plus it looks good, and gives an edge with dificulty at these **** karate tournies.

Traditional Whips

freedom76,

Like I mention before, there exist butterfly kicks in the advance forms of traditional weapon sets.

Unfortunately, it has been my experience that most traditional sifus have determined that the beginner level is good and not bother to teach the advance sets.

To answer your question, yes the traditional weapons with more difficult techniques still exist but are difficult to locate a sifu willing to teach it. Most traditional weapon sets taught today are only at the beginner level.

Agreed

In CMA, shaolin in particular, there are so many weapons. Imagine that we just take the 18 quoted Shaolin weapons, have just one beginner set, one intermediate set, and one advanced set… that would be 54 weapon forms. Plus 10 standard empty hand sets, add to that the likes of tan tui, a select few other forms, and you can easily have more than 60 sets to try to remember… most don’t get to that level of training.
