Been trying to get a little more time w/ my bass the last couple of weeks and decided I wanted to get a new tab for Curtis Mayfield’s “Superfly”…and I discover that mxtabs.net shut down in December fearing a lawsuit by the MPA.
effing bull****! mxtabs.net was, AFAIK, people posting what they ‘thought’ the tablature was for a particular song…sharing OPINION on a subject.
I wanted to include 13 mad faces but stinking limitations…

Tab is a reproduction of copyrighted material, therefore… there are some loopholes around it though.
Anyway, IME internet tab is DREADFUL and the MPA is actually saving you from disappointment, frustration and years of playing songs with the wrong turnaround
Tab books are usually by album. Of course the average magazine costs $8 (much less if you subscribe) and usually has at least 5 full tabs, plus educational tab. I get most stuff from mags, then get books for bands/albums I really like.
my point is that while it can certainly be argued that P2P file sharing infringed on intellectual property rights and the profits of an artist I just can’t see where a tab written by an amature and posted on a website for educational purposes is an issue. I only have maybe 20 tabs I’ve pulled from there but all of them say this at the top:
This file is the author’s own work and represents their interpretation of the song. You may only use this file for private study, scholarship, or research.
In a worst case situation maybe some garage band somewhere played a cover of someone elses song at a bar show and maybe walked home with 50 bucks in thier pocket.
next thing you know, it will be illegal to even play someone elses music.
Yes, I did get the Dillion. I ‘think’ it’s a decent bass. I need new strings and the dry winter air has made the neck warp just a bit. Hopefully next month I’ll have the money to take her in and get her set-up.
