I’ve been getting what I believe are tension headaches for the last week or so. I just had a pretty severe one start about 2 hours ago. After 3 ibuprofen and 2 exedrin I have it down to a dull ache.
The pain starts at the base of my skull and then spreads to my temple and facial area.
I’ve never really gotten these before, so i’m unsure of what to do as far as treating and prevention. I don’t like going to the doctor unless absolutely necessary, though.
What i’m considering is trying out some qigong tonight for relaxation purposes. Most of my training and exercising lately has been fairly rigorous without much low impact stuff to equalize it. I.E. Running, lots of bag work, lots of quadrupedal movement, etc. In fact, it has taken me twice as long to relax into my iron palm training as usual. I had just assumed I was a little tired.
I have some qigong dvds that i’m considering for tonight, but i’m not real sure if it is even worth it.
Anyone here that can recommend something for this?
It is possible that the referal shock from impact might be the problem. The iron palm training.
Constipation can cause the tension headaches too. And it might not be apparent that you suffer from it. Just sluggish bowel movements will do it. And of course, not eating properly or going too long before eating can do it to you.
Think about your day and see if there is anything different that you are doing, or maybe not doing.
I suffered severe headache for 30 years. It started at age 8 and went for the next 30 years. Never stopping. Always severe, but sometimes not as severe as other times. Eventually I got relief. It seems that my neck had been dislocated when I was 8 years old, and it was not found by the many doctors that I had seen over the years until one day I got involved in my own problems. A chiropractor put it back into place, but after so many years it still tries to go back. The instant it went back into place the pain left me and I have not had a headache since.
Sounds like a migraine, but the things you can do are hydrate as much as possible, maybe take a day off and rest. Tea or caffeine can help thin the blood, release some of the pressure on the blood vessels. I would try resting in a dark room.
