What is it with the distended bellys of Tai Chi practitioners.
I’m vain. I don’t want one.

Funny thing, I still do serious crunches and ab work but over the last couple of years of doing more “internal” work I noticed my jut was getting bigger.
First I assumed I was getting fatter ![]()
But the weight was more or less the same.
The thing is, my gut is much stronger.
I mean, we are talking full force punches and kicks, 2 x 4, bats, mother-in-laws, the works ![]()
I don’t know, maybe there is something there ( probably fat).
Kempo teachers must have the best “power bellies” ever…

Taiji Belly
Some of us are just old and have gotten a little overweight. Still do Taiji and find the belly no hindrance. Just too much good Kung Pao Chicken.![]()
My instructor has the best answer ever for this question. When students, like me (Hey! I’m in shape. “Pear” is a shape!) ask why do we develop Tai Chi Bellies, he simply responds with:
Because you eat more than you practice. Practice harder.
How do you argue with that?
