Summer in Shaolin

Hello Again

Is anyone planning to go to Shaolin next year in the autumn? Specifically for the festival and competition? I assume Gene you’d try to be there, I’m just wondering who else I can expect to see as well. We all should definately get together. Next summer’s going to be a hot bed of competitions in China:

  1. Wushu World Champs in Macau
  2. Shaolin Festival
  3. Wu Bin Invitational
  4. Wu Dang Competition

Hope to see some of you there

I hope to go to Shaolin for the festival again

Although to be honest, last years festival was a bit disappointing. Shaolin is holding a Martial Arts Symposium in mid April that I’d like to go to, so I may forego the festival in lieu of that, but we’ll see. Next year seems so far away right now.

I was in Macao in '91 and didn’t care for it much. If I went to that, I’d probably spend more time in HK. Wudang would be interesting again.

BTW I liked your article on wudang in this kungfu qigong Gene. I vote we turn this to the “shaolin and wudang forum”. I actually would like to visit wudang more than shaolin right now.

Shaolin vs. wudang

Hey thanks for the props! That was a fun issue for me. By now, I’m sure you seen my online wudang piece (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/article.php?article=5) and heard that Abbot Zhong will be coming ot our 10 Year Anniversary Party (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/ezine/10yr/index.html)

Wudang is very beautiful, but things are pretty spread out. I only scratched the surface with my limited stay. There’s a lifetime of research just climbing those mountains. Feel free to discuss Wudang here (better that than some of the other topics that come up here) but I’m not changing the name of the forum.

“but I’m not changing the name of the forum.”

You suck

mean people suck

nice people lick

What the?..

BTW Gene I usually like your Wu articles. The one with RZA was pretty cool. I’d like to see more of that in the future. Traditional Kungfu in a contemporary way…nice. I also enjoyed the “life story” of the wudang master(forgot name, magazine isn’t in front of me).

Thanks. Going to Wudang with RZA was definately on of the more bizarre moments in my martial career. And tradition in a modern context is one of my favorite topics. Most people say they beleive in traditional but they fail to make it vital in modern day.

Still not changing the name of the forum, tho…:stuck_out_tongue:

Wudan online

OK, I might change my mind

I spent all of Monday with the Cheif Priest of Wudang, Zhong Yun Long. It’ll take me some time to process all of the research. Great stuff. Amazing really. The Shaolin forum remains, but maybe it’s time for a Wudang forum. We’ll see how the sales of our current Taoist issue goes http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/200112.html
