Student Funding for Kung fu study?

Thanks, KC…

I’m not opposed to getting a job to fund myself through training at all:) Just was curious about the options that were available.

To be honest, I half-expected the tone in some of the responses. Some people have nothing better to do than cut in on someone who asks what they deem a “stupid question”.

I’m more of the opinion that there are no stupid questions. In fact, I’d think it stupid to NOT ask a question:)

My thanks for your reply,

Hau Tien

[snip] To those who simply posted a “Sorry… no funding that I’ve ever heard of…” reply, thanks… that re-enforces what I’ve found myself. To the rest… why bother posting a reply that isn’t helpful? Simply read the post and move on.

Why? Well it was pretty fun to jump all over you! You say that you expected such a response, yet why did you word your post that way, with no further details? Now, nobody gets such a strong negative response for no reason. Well, think about the situation from our shoes, for a moment. Martial arts to us is something that many of us have to sacrifice for, have to spend our hard-earned money, have to take time away from our families to practice. We would all like to quit our jobs and study Kung-Fu. So your question is a little inconsiderate, kind of like “what makes this guy think he’s so special.” To be honest, you just sounded like an ignorant 22-year old mama’s boy career student. I can see that you aren’t. Also, again, you don’t have enough money to pay your own way, and your thinking about getting married. All I can say is, life can raise up and kick you in the face, you never know what accident is going to befall you, and when the sh*it hits the fan you’d BETTER be there with a safety net. That’s going to be your responsiblility as a husband and eventually (I assume) a father. Working on your career is a good move but you don’t want to be a gym rat sleeping on a mat when your wife suddenly gets ill-- you will want your computer job with decent pay and health benefits, and a little money saved up.

Happy first post, man. You’ll learn.

OK, Dwid, but here’s my take on the ‘sour grapes’

1- The guys WIFE does kung fu and wants to do it FULL TIME with him.

2- The guy already has worked, and just wants to focus on kung fu, AS DOES HIS WIFE.

3- A couple people come on, tell him to get a job, compare their perception of his life to that of a washout.

4- And yet, still, his **** wife wants to do kung fu full time with him.

Now tell me, when this thread is done, who is gonna go out to the park and do kung fu with their wife for a good long time, and then actually have a good opportunity to have some fine old post-kung fu lovin?

Hell, now its starting to p!ss me off! **** you Hau! You suck!

Okay, okay KC Elbows…

Looks like you could use some warm milk and a valium:D

People just jumped on him because it is kind of a silly question. If there were an easy source of funding to train full time, hell, we’d all be doing it.

I didn’t mean to come off too harsh at first, but the guy came off with a lot of attitude in his reply, so all bets are off at that point.

Like fa-jing said, it’s kind of insulting to the sacrifices a lot of us make to be looking to sidestep making any sacrifices at all, which is how the initial post sounded.

Now, lets get you back in that cage…

Not in the cornflakes!

Fa Jing,
I’m afraid I don’t agree on the concept of it being inconsiderate to ask that question. It was a simple funding question. If he were a business owner, or considering going into business, no one would have thought a thing of it. If it were a philo degree, he could get loans and never find any use for it, yet martial arts are less useful?
I think someone just p!ssed in everyone’s cornflakes this morning, and y’all are taking it out on Hau.

Like if you guys could find someone to pay for your training, you wouldn’t jump at the chance.

dwid,
OK taking the milk and valium. I might point out that he wasn’t responding so much to you, as fa jing and his “washout” comment. As soon as I saw that comment, I’m like “its gonna get ugly”.

This is a new member, and seeing as we don’t own this forum, we should be nice to the new members and welcome them aboard. The question was innocent.

I thought it was a very legitimate question. I just felt like getting on my high horse after I was told not to.

Fa-jing it’s not like this board is your aateam

it’s a valid question and i bet if it was china and he wanted to be a wushu coach i bet the commies have funding?!.

FJ:

Please see my comments throughout yor quoted reply.

[snip]Why? Well it was pretty fun to jump all over you!

Obviously.

[snip]You say that you expected such a response, yet why did you word your post that way, with no further details?

Because there were no other details needed. You don’t need to know how much money i’ve got in my accounts, you don’t need to know how I’ll support my family. I think I provided quite a lot of information in that first post, and that the tone of my message was worded appropriately. Let me worry about the rest. OR, conversely… if I had ASKED for such advice… well… you get the idea.

[snip]Now, nobody gets such a strong negative response for no reason. Well, think about the situation from our shoes, for a moment. This is the internet. People give negative responses all the time for no particular reason. That’s how they are. Oh, and as I said above… I’ve no problems with getting a job while I train. I was simply looking to see if there was other opportunities out there. As for being inconsiderate… You appear to be overly sensitive.

[snip] To be honest, you just sounded like an ignorant 22-year old mama’s boy. I can see that you aren’t.

To be honest, you sound like a know-it-all jerk. Did I tell you that? Nope. Cause I don’t know you, and it could be well off.

[snip] Also, again, you don’t have enough money to pay your own way, and your thinking about getting married. All I can say is, life can raise up and kick you in the face, you never know what accident is going to befall you, and when the sh*it hits the fan you’d BETTER be there with a safety net.

sigh I’m not even going to justify this with a response. You don’t know me. You don’t know my life. You don’t know what plans I have/don’t have. You don’t know what I’ve done already. You know nothing about me in the least. Save that sort of advice for someone you know.

[snip] That’s going to be your responsiblility as a husband and eventually (I assume) a father. Working on your career is a good move but you don’t want to be a gym rat sleeping on a mat when your wife suddenly gets ill-- you will want your computer job with decent pay and health benefits, and a little money saved up.

Again… see my reply from the above paragraph.

[snip] Happy first post, man. You’ll learn.

I’m no newbie to the internet. I’ve been around since '94. That’s why I expected the type of response you’ve given.

I thank you for your… concern… although I feel that most of what you “assume” to be just that… assumptions. Why don’t I explain further? Because I don’t really feel like the intimate details of my life are of any interest to anyone on this board (beyond what I’ve already posted), nor do I feel this is the place for such things.

Diego:

Don’t you know nobody pays for anything in china, that’s what communism is all about. So, yeah, it’s easy to be a full-time kung-fu student in a marxist paradise like that.

(For the comedically impaired, the above is a joke)

Yeah, well I guess they fund lots of crazy shit, like some fucked up art in this country and Canada. There probably is a national Wushu team or something, although mr. forum newbie hasn’t given any reason to think he’s a competitor at the national level.

So Hau, have you considered the following option: Welfare.

-FJ

LOL @ ewallace!!

Welcome aboard, Hau, and remember:

FaJing is evil. I mean evil, like sleeping with goats evil, stealing baby birds just as they’re hatching and feeding them to cats evil, using the “Reply All” button on even the most inconsequential email evil.

Just breaking your balls a little, man.

-FJ

Wow…

It was tense there for a minute.

FaJing, that was an impressive b@llbusting, if somewhat mean to do to a newcomer. Are you sure you weren’t actually JF Springer?

LOL KC… I’ll remember :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Thanks for the… welcome… to the board;)
