Legendary Entertainment has secured an exclusive license to live-action film and TV rights for the iconic Capcom video game franchise Street Fighter.

All projects will be co-developed and produced in conjunction with Capcom, including the feature film in development.

Since the iconic franchise’s launch in 1987, Street Fighter has sold more than 49 million units worldwide, becoming one of the most well-known and highest-grossing video game franchises of all time. The next chapter in the franchise, Street FighterTM 6, is slated for release June 2, 2023 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X | S, and PC via STEAM.

Legendary has the sequel to the $400 million-grossing pandemic hit Dune in the works right now. The studio counts $19 billion worldwide from its feature library.

‘Street Fighter’ Lands March 2026 Release From Sony

Capcom

“Street Fighter” has landed a March 20, 2026 domestic release date from Sony. The film, from Legendary, is co-developed and produced with Japanese game distributor Capcom.

Legendary nabbed the film and television rights to the highly popular gaming series in 2023. Since the franchise launched in 1987, Street Fighter has sold over 49 million units worldwide, becoming one of the most well-known and highest-grossing video game franchises of all time.

It also spawned other games, spin-offs and crossovers featuring characters like Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, Guile and M. Bison. Capcom is behind other popular games like “Resident Evil” and “Monster Hunter.”

This isn’t the first time “Street Fighter” has hit the big screen. Universal mounted an adaptation of the same name in 1994, starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Kylie Minogue, Ming-Na Wen and Raul Julia. In 2009, 20th Century Fox released “Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li” with Kristin Kreuk. Both projets were critical and commercial misfires.

While game adaptations were often synonymous with box office failures, recent years have seen a slew of successes in the genre, including “Sonic the Hedgehog” and its 2022 sequel, Tom Holland’s “Uncharted,” “Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” and the “Super Mario Bros. Movie.” In the TV world, “The Last of Us” and “Fallout” adaptations have proven popular as well.

Legendary, which has a distribution deal with Sony, has experience with adaptations of all kinds, including novels, comic books and more with “Dune,” “Godzilla vs. Kong,” “Pokemon: Detective Pikachu” and “Enola Holmes.” The company cut ties with Warner Bros., which released “Dune: Part Two” earlier this year.
Wonder who will star in this version?

EXCLUSIVE: Indian action star Vidyut Jammwal (Commando) has landed the role of Dhalsim in Legendary‘s live-action Street Fighter movie, based on the video games from Capcom, sources tell Deadline.

Reps for Legendary declined to comment. The project marks the Hollywood debut of an actor who we’re told has been deliberate about the project with which he wants to introduce himself in the U.S. market. First introduced in Street Fighter II in 1991, the character of Dalsim is a yogi with fire-spitting abilities — a fundamentally peaceful man who fights to support his family.

As previously announced, the Street Fighter cast will also include Andrew Koji as Ryu, Noah Centineo as Ken, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Roman Reigns as Akuma, and Hirooki Goto as E. Honda.

Plot details for the film, from Bad Trip helmer Kitao Sakurai, remain under wraps.

Launched in 1987, Street Fighter is a series of fighting games revolving around intense one-on-one battles between a diverse cast of martial artists, organized by the villainous M. Bison as a global fighting tournament. The games have sold over 55 million units worldwide since launch, making the franchise one of the most well-known and highest-grossing of all time.

Known for roles in a dozen blockbusters in India, including the Commando and Khuda Haafiz franchises, Jammwal boasts 22M followers across social media and is well known in India, even as he’s still looking to build his profile in the States. The international talent is repped by Wonder Street and Felker Levine.
I do like Vidyut

Street Fighter — and its parent studio Legendary — have a new place to call home.

Legendary has inked a three-year pact with Paramount to distribute its movies, with the Capcom video game adaptation Street Fighter the first out of the gate. The Kitao Sakurai-directed feature now has a release date of Oct. 16, 2026.

The film is currently in production, with Paramount and Legendary releasing the first plot details for the movie, which will be set in 1993, the year the popular game Street Fighter II hit arcades.

Here’s the new logline: “Set in 1993, estranged Street Fighters Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken Masters (Noah Centineo) are thrown back into combat when the mysterious Chun-Li (Callina Liang) recruits them for the next World Warrior Tournament: a brutal clash of fists, fate, and fury. But behind this battle royale lies a deadly conspiracy that forces them to face off against each other and the demons of their past. And if they don’t, it’s GAME OVER!”

The Legendary deal, now official, was reported to be in talks on Aug. 18 and comes after its output deal with Sony expired at the end of 2024. Legendary’s former partner Warner Bros. will continue to distribute key franchises such as the eventual sequel to the nearly $1 billion hit A Minecraft Movie, as well as 2026’s third Dune and 2027’s Godzilla x Kong: Supernova.

The Street Fighter movie has a sprawling cast, including Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Andrew Koji as Ryu, Callina Liang as Chun-Li, Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Andrew Schulz as Dan Hibiki, Eric André as Don Sauvage, Vidyut Jammwal as Dhalsim, with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog and Jason Momoa as Blanka

It also stars Orville Peck as Vega, Olivier Richters as Zangief, Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Rayna Vallandingham as Juli, Alexander Volkanovski as Joe, Kyle Mooney as Marvin and Mel Jarnson as Cammy.

“Legendary has built a reputation for ambitious, globally appealing films, and we’re excited to be partnering with them. Street Fighter is the perfect start to our collaboration, which we believe will be strong and lasting,” said Josh Greenstein, co-chair of Paramount Pictures and vice chair of platforms, and Dana Goldberg, Co-Chair of Paramount Pictures and Chair of Paramount Television.

Added Legendary CEO Josh Grode: “Partnering with David, Dana and Josh and their teams at Paramount marks an exciting new chapter for Legendary as we continue to pursue a diversified growth strategy—expanding our output, building new franchises, and creating more films for global audiences. This partnership is an extraordinary opportunity, and we look forward to working closely with Paramount on stories that will captivate and inspire moviegoers worldwide.”

This is just one of many key early moves made by David Ellison’s new Paramount, which lured Stranger Things creators the Duffer Bros. from Netflix, inked a $7.7 billion deal for UFC rights, and signed Will Smith’s Westbrook to a first-look film deal.

# Street Fighter** Movie Casts Anti-Woke Online Personality As Dan**

Podcaster and stand-up performer Andrew Schulz is joining the fighting game adaptation

Street Fighter

Less than 24 hours ago, we ran a story on the bonkers cast for the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie. It’s full of the weirdest motley crew of actors I’ve seen in a big-budget film as of late, with rapper 50 Cent, masked country singer Orville Peck, and Mr. Minecraft himself, Jason Momoa, all set to star. It sounded like the makings of a perfect Bad Movie Night viewing, and it still might be. But now, we also know that Dan Hibiki, the Street Fighter series’ lovably inept but deeply enthusiastic competitor, is reportedly being played by “anti-woke” personality Andrew Schulz.

The video player is currently playing an ad.

News of this comes from a report over at Deadline, and while the story does mention that Schulz is a podcaster and stand-up performer, it doesn’t mention that much of Schulz’ online persona is based in anti-woke “manosphere” bullshit that ultimately boils down to being mad about potentially experiencing consequences for how you talk about other people. Shout-out to ZeoVGM on ResetEra for citing a few examples of Schulz’s political ramblings so I didn’t have to go wading into the sewage to find them. This guy has had Donald Trump on his podcast, appeared on Fox News to say that people rejecting “wokeness” (being polite to marginalized people and recognizing how they have been affected by persecution over several generations) is why Trump is in office again. Here are a few choice quotes:

“As a kid, I was pushed left because of how censorious the right was, waving their fingers, don’t use cuss words, this is too sexual,” Schulz said to The Daily Beast. “I’m like, ‘Yo, I want to be like the Democrats, they got girls sucking d—k in the Oval Office.’ They were cool as s—t. And now it’s the opposite. The Republicans are getting pussy left and right, they’re the ones who say crazy jokes.”

He went on to say that we “need” progress, but also that telling people not to make insensitive jokes is the actual problem.

“And then the Democrats are a little bit more censorious,” he said. ”They’re like, ‘This is going too far,’ which is the burden of being progressive. Don’t get me wrong, it is a much harder thing to push us into progress, which we need.”

He also says that Trump’s “unanimous” victory (crucially, he did not win the 2024 election unanimously) happened because people were so mad about being told to be nice to people that they decided to send America spiraling into fascism. It was either this or pronouns, you know?

“I think that now that the pendulum has swung… we’re past wokeness,” Schulz said. “Wokeness is done. We’ve moved on. The country has spoken loud and clear. Unanimous victory for Trump. He ran on anti-woke.”

Also, I admittedly had no idea 50 Cent also sucked ass when I wrote the story about his casting as Balrog yesterday. Has anyone else in this cast done annoying shit that I don’t know about? I’d say let me know in the comments, but that’s not possible anymore.
