Short - version of our South - Shaolin Tour 2003. More details later …
Hung Gar followers from all around the world met in Hong Kong to go on a trip organized by Grandmaster Dr. Chui Chi Ling 10th Dan to historical places like the south Shaolin Temple and the birth place of the famous hero and Kung fu master Wong Fei Hung (Huang Feihong). In the Wong Fei Hung Museum and in many
places the Hung Gar followers gave demonstration of their skills. During the tour some of the students absolved examinations for the 2nd Dan grade and performed Bai Si, a traditional ceremony to become a full member of the Kung Fu family.
The organizer Grandmaster Dr. Chiu Chi Ling 10th Dan started the tour with his advanced students Master Dr. Martin Sewer 5th Dan (European Chief-Coordinator) from Switzerland, Master Klaas Padberg from the Netherlands, Master Luigi Martone 5th Dan from Italy, Master Hassan Efe from Germany, and Chi Fang from
the USA and their students in the morning of 13th of January 2003.
Shaolin The most famous Kung Fu Styles have their roots in the Southern Shaolin Temple, like the popular Hung Gar. The exact location of the temple is unknown, because it was burned down in the 16th century. Nowadays three locations are regarded as the most probable true place. The 2003 trip to the roots of Shaolin led to two of them, Putian Shaolin Temple and Quanzhou Shaolin Temple. Grandmaster Dr. Chiu Chi Ling 10th Dan obtained a special permission from the abbot of the Putian Shaolin Temple to attend a Buddhist ceremony for the memory of the ancestors of Shaolin Hung Gar Kung Fu. The Kung Fu School Martin Sewer had the great honor to perform the Lion Dance as opening ceremony for the following Kung Fu demonstrations. After the well choreographed show of the monks the participants of the tour gave a demonstration of their excellent Hung Gar Kung Fu skills. The end of the visit was the traditional exchange of
memory flags. The whole event was documented by a camera team and a martial arts magazine reporter Rainer Czech. In the Quanzhou Shaolin Temple the 2003 trip to the roots of Shaolin was expected by a local TV reporter team and members of the government. In front of recording cameras Grandmaster Dr. Chiu Chi Ling held a special seminar about the principles of Gong and Jau. Beside the Lion Dance and Kung Fu
performances and the exchange of the memory flags with the abbot, the highlight of the visit was the ‘Bai Si’. Grandmaster Dr. Chiu Chi Ling adopted his student Master Luigi Martone as a member of the well known Chiu Kung Fu family by accepting the presented tea. Grandstudent Master Hassan Efe also had the honor to make Bai Si to his Grandmaster.
Wong Fei Hung Memorial Wong Fei Hung, Chinas most popular folk’s hero ever, one of the Ten Tigers of
Kwantung, top doctor of Chinese medicine was a grandmaster of the Hung Gar Kung Fu style. The art of Hung Gar Kung Fu was passed down to him in a direct line from the South Shaolin Temple. The art was passed on in a direct line to Grandmaster Dr. Chiu Chi Ling, who is now the president of the Wong Fei Hung
Alumni Association. In memory of this great ancestor the 2003 trip to the roots of Shaolin went to the Wong Fei Hung Museum in Foshan. Dr. Chiu Chi Ling organized the permission and all the needed elements for
another Bai Si ceremony. For Master Dr. Martin Sewer 5th Dan and his six most advanced students it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to make Bai Si in this exceptionally fitting and historic environment of the Wong Fei Hung Museum. Another part of the visit was practicing the Sup Yin Kuen, Hung Gars second highest form, with Grandmaster Dr. Chiu Chi Ling 10th Dan. Of course this event has been followed by the press.
The tour led also to the Lion Art of Wong Fei Hung Wushu Hall, which is in the birth place of Wong Fei Hung, Xiqiao Shan. There the advanced students showed their skills under supervision of Grandmaster
Dr. Chiu Chi Ling. 10th Dan. He awarded the 2nd Dan to his grandstudents: Nadine Zach, Alex Hauenstein, José Dias, Dominik Schoch, Fadri Canal and Karin Sauter. He awarded the 3rd Dan to his student Chi Fang. The visit came to an end with another Bai Si Ceremony of Klaas Padberg and one of his students.
