your just jealous because you don’t have your own big fat bald [shirtless] Buddha looking on ![]()
i’m taking donations so we can buy that guy a shirt , i almost went blind !
Sorry Ernie,
I should have given a WARNING before posting that clip. ![]()
Jeez!!! I noticed him too!
Bill,
That vid is just as brutal, too. They’re not even in fighting distance…just scared of getting hit - which is why I think people chase hands.

Kenton
Kenton,
I agree with your observations. Notice how the they’re not even hitting to the center. Each one is just trying to go over the top of the other one.
I could go on, but, as we all now know… you can’t draw conclusions from videos. ![]()
Besides, I’ll leave to the guys who are good at this stuff to make more meaningful comments.
Interesting your observation Kenton, as it is absolutely true that they are scared to get hit. One of the primary things I learned from the WSL lineage so far is this, one must NOT be scared to get hit, as 1) more than likely you will be hit, 2) it affects your attack intent (psychologically and physically) in such away that is virtually nulify’s the attack itself. So when fighting, if you are so scared of getting hit then you might as well give up, because only luck will be your ally.
James
I’ve heard this from my teacher as well. I totally agree. As a lot of us have said before: WC ups your chances of winning in battle - it doesn’t make you invincible!
Chasing the centre is hard with hands a flailing, but important to get the job done.

Kenton
That reminds me of what my instructor tells us when we cringe right before getting hit by our opponent. “Don’t make face! Do you think it will hurt any less if you make face?!” In other words, if you’re gonna get hit, you’re gonna get hit. Don’t sacrafice your position and intent for fear of getting hit.
Regards,
Alan
Exactly, making a face, like that will lessen the pain of a shot the face. I really believe that if one can master this one aspect, it can change alot of things. If you look at any tough skilled pro boxer, they don’t flinch on the way in or look away they just go in and keep their eyes on the target. Worrying about getting hit and reacting before you don’t, just takes all your momentum away, so you might as well forget about engaging in any successful attempts to succeed.
Attack the attack they say in certain Wing chun circles..
James
Pity “Stop Making Sense” was an album title and not a song, otherwise I could see a parody developed around the title of this thread.
Hey James,
I think you got a lot of value out of your training in LA.
My understanding is that you need to seek out contact (Chum Kiu) rather than try to avoid it. Sometimes you’re better off in the eye of the hurricane.
