silat/baqua

Hey
Anyone have any ideas about a silat (not kuntao) baqua, internal arts connection. It certainly seems that that silat’s upper body movements have the coiling of tai chi/baqua, the directness of hsing-i. Add the footwork, the sensitivity and knowing the body moves in so many ways…

Silat/Bagua

There is a strong Bagua influence in several Indonesian Silat styles. I have a friend who teaches Silat and he demonstarted a form to a well-regarded Bagua instructor a couple of years ago. He ended by saying, “But that’s not very good Bagua.” The Bagua teacher said, “What are you talking about? You just did a perfect single palm change.”

He meant that the essence of the Single Palm Change was hidden in the form.

Best,

Steve
