Traditionally not all Shaolin monks trained in kung fu - some were scholars. The tourist who wanted to fight the monk was an arsehole and whether you think the monk did the right thing or not, having a fight with a visitor would not look good and is bad publicity. Also, how advanced was this monk?
Secondly, I agree with peacemaker. The PRC is not going to lease the temple to a foreign enterprise, and right now a US enterprise is probably least likely to win a lease over there.
I really hope you are joking because if you aren’t then you sound like an egotistical maniac to me.
As we speak, the good name of Shaolin is being tarnished by monks who cannot fight. With the coming of Fu Corporation (and the PRC know that), the monks can be educated in traditional ideas of obedience and fighting spirit. They have been oppressed by a totalatarian regime for too long. Now they will have a sense of purpose and power. They will share in the management of Fu Corporation through equity ownership in a subsidiary company as part of their remuneration package.
It is totallty erronous to say that this is a scam when what I’m giving to these oppressed people is something that they otherwise would never have - the sense of identity and hope.
Think about this, monks young and old demonstrating their amazing chi kung in front of cheering spectators at the Shaolin Theme Park at New Orleans. How romantic would that be, it would certainly make the world a better place, a place made better by Dr. Fu.
just stop it wit all the beef between the u.s. and china right now your whole “scam” sounds stupid have you seen the news oh and not all monks have to fight remmeber back in the old days there were only five hundred fighting monks the rest were priest and scholars not only that i don’t bleive the story about the monk and the tourist cause thats still assault and i don’t care what country you come from your going to jail.
well ive been 4 times in the 90’s and there are no monks, again its all communist money making bullsh!t.
its a beautiful temple true, but drugs are everywhere and even shaolin is having problems. why not help your own neighbourhood out, than oversea’s. obviously we have a world wide problem with drugs! not just shaolin temple
abandit
thanks for the kind warm welcome at your school, much appreciated. its a small world who nows you around the traps ah!
I have been to the Shaolin temples in both Putian and Quan Chou and I a) saw no evidence of drug use there and b) trained with the monks and I can assure you at least the ones in the south are excellent martial artists. Never been to the Honan one so I couldn’t comment on that temple.
Hey FT,
It was great to finally meet you. I wish I could have spent more time talking with you :).
Unfortuantely I am completely booked up this Easter weekend. The weekend after looks OK though.
My new tour group will be called Dr Fu and his frolicking Shaolin Monks. We will be performing our extraordinary chi skills around the world. You can see the one armed Shaolin Monk do the Sun Gim form. The 80 year old muscle monk smashes bicks with his head - he is known as the iron headed rodent. They have gone through significant amount of body conditioning at the Institute of Chi realignment. They were the ones who signed up early and have financed their studies through my very own finance company at a bargain interest rate of 12.5%p.a.
The tour will be managed by my sexy wife who is a Cajun witch and would give us spiritual protection.
I see you have little respect for the traditions of Shaolin. Monks have addressed me as Fu the fixer as i have put mended together many a broken life.
Students respect me and address me as Dr Feel good. My unique brew of herbal remedies is a blend of the best Chinese herbalogy and Cajun Witchcraft has to offer.
It is necessary to foster the idea of tolerance and open mindedness in order to make the oweld a better place. Someone quite correctly suggested to Dr. Fu why not start with my own neighbourhood. thats’ exactly what I’m doing by bringing the monks across the Atlantic to New Orleans.
These monks are top notch expects having fought through the 28 wooden men of shaolin, taken a language exam in english and french plus demonstrating their competence in breathing conditioning exercises.
Junior monks will continue to receive training in China because labour is cheap and it would take them pretty much a life time to save up for the trip to the States.
Some of them don’t have work visas or social security numbers and their seating on the plane flight might have to be one grade below Economy Class (ie Cargo bay for all those who are interlectually challenged) in high altitude the air may be a little cold and thin. But their training in the shaolin mountants + their ability to control their breathing would serve them well.
They have been recommended (for this occasion) to grow a full head of hair and refrane from shaving because as we know it most of our body heat is lost through our heads.
A bright spark has suggested to me that Shaolin Monks should be placed on the endangered specise list. My next mission is to set up a “Save the Monks Fund”.
Well, Dr. Fu Manchu may I suggest that you change you name to Dr. Chew Da’man and get together with “Don Juan” of Carlos Castenades fame and work out a “Chi and sorcery” course for the inept.
That would surely bring in the crowd! After all, what is Gung Fu for but to impress the most with the least. A little sword and sorcery would inspire more computer games and probably make you and the monks — A LOT’A MONEY!!!
There are many ways of making money in this world and look good in the process achieving much fame in my monk hood. But i must ask myself whether it will glorify the rish history of Shaolin and Dr Fu Manchu.
What you’ve suggested is nothing short of mockery! I would rather see monks riding a mono cycle or seeing one with a full head of hair. Now that would be a real specticle!
Money and fame is not the object of our mission. Although a generous donation from you all would certainly help.
Sorry for laughing at you Fu Manchu…I realise that in doing so I took you far too seriously. By some strange coincidence you wouldn’t be associated with Ego Maximus??
I think I should apologise to you. I just read the Southern KF forum and see that you think Fu is Ego or Ego is Fu. I think you are right - both have consistently low standards and both clowns post alike.
Before one seeks to know someone else one should seek to know oneself as it is the Shaolin way. Do you truely know yourself, as without the certainty you’ll not know someone else. But if you truely know youself there is no need to seek anything else. A fisher man who catches the fish forgets his nets. My friends, meditate on the wisdom of Buddah, Confucious, Mohamad or any other wise men and women of histroy and empty your minds to let your chi transcend.
