Does anyone know where I can find some techniques on the net that I can practice for use in point fighting.
Every time the other guys goes for a tech, stick your face out. You just one without throwing a blow. (fouls give you a point)
Take some acting lessons so that if contact is made, you can make it look like the contact was too heavy. And again, you win without having to throw a strike! ![]()
My advice - stay away from point fighting.

Well…
That might actually work, except for one thing, you can hit to the face without penalties in our tournaments.
Abandit our piont fighting is like real fighting. No gloves, just tape, full contact. The person scores when they hit you a solid hit to the chest, stomach or face area, but there is no such thing as hitting too hard and stuff like that.
Ahh, the good old style. Can you sweep or trip?

Ahhhhh, OK. I had visions of karate/tkd-style point fighting. My bad.

No, it’s just another part of training. It’s not the be all and end all, but just a step in developing fighting skills.

You think you are developing fighting skills. Untill you actually encouter a full contact fighter and after the first hit you expect to hear “UP!” but insted you feel the pain of another, another and yet another.
Piont fighting does get you used to squaring off with someone but you are not hitting full power nor are you being hit full power.
Like the man says you fight like you train so if you train to “touch” your opponent then how do you thing you will react in a serious altercation?

When you score a point, do you just stop, and restart again?

Johnny,
And how often do you go full power? Do you posess some mutant healing factor that allows you to do it several times a week?
ABandit, maybe he’s gone full power one time too many.

Full power
On Bags, Makiwara, and targets pretty much daily. Up to 80% sometimes sparring. Back in the TKD days I KOed a few guys in tournaments but that was along time ago 91-93.
Definitely when I’m rolling cause my technical skills suck right now. Everyone I roll with has a few years on me and it’s a completely different game.
But even Full Contact Fighting compares nothing to the Adrenaline flowing, Flesh tearing, Bone cracking reality of the Street

how often do you spar? if you spar often, 80% is way too much to be doing full contact. I agree with you on the point fighting thing, As I’ve stated numerous times I don’t care for it either, but continuous sparring is different. we allow sweeps, throws, etc. And it’s light to medium contact. We don’t go full power 80% of the time. Even in muay thai we didn’t do that. It was always 110% on the pads and bags, but technique drills and sparring were different.

80%
Of full power. When I spar I’m usually sparring friends a few times a week stand up, ground and some take down stuff.
When it comes to Bags I like the philosophy that they don’t hit back so you can go ballistic on them, Especially those last 30 seconds.
7* how often do you work out with bags and what sort of rounds do you do?

Hi
As long as you know that its not real fighting, or even full contact sparring (although S Massa’s point fighting sounds a lot more like real sparring than our’s) point fighting builds reflexes, practices strategies etc. OK so its not ‘bone cracking’ enough for some of you bad boys out there but if you look at it as restricted sparring it is a useful tool for people that don’t want a bent nose and cauli ear by their middle age.
And getting back on topic, I was once looking for the same myself, and there’s **** all. Although you could try www.immortal.co.uk, but I couldn’t get it to work. never been there myself, but the description cited development of tactics.
Goodluck. ![]()
ehm in TKD sparring you can kick anywhere above the waist and as hard as you like, no stopping when points are scored so combos and counter sttacks are fine.
Just because someone mentioned it ![]()
Free thinkers are dangerous!
In TKD point sparring, the most common techniques to score with are roundhouse and spin sidekick.
For more on TKD point sparring, go to http://www.taekwon.net and look in the “studio”. They have some sparring lessons on their site and you can buy videos, too.
Why the interest in point sparring?

Surrender yourself to nature and be all that you are.
Last night I watched the NBC productions Olympic highlight vid for TKD (my good buddy is an ITF 2nd Dan).
Steven Lopez, our mystical gold medal winner, has the longest legs i’ve ever seen. Some ugly techniques (particulary his patented “life my my massively long front leg and cut you off everytime” technique), but he’s fast and effective.
