Is that xin jia or lao jia that Chen Fake is performing?

The time period when those photos were taken (1950s)would suggest xin jia. I can’t necessarily tell from the still photos.

Other photos from the same series, earlier in the series, are posted at the taijiquan web page of Jarek Szymanski’s site (homepages.msn.com/SpiritSt/xinyi/index.html), together with an excerpt from Hong Junsheng’s book (Hong was a long-time student of Chen Fake).
