To sui-fuw

I have read your post and your quite right, certificates and gradings are fine, but what comes from the soul is what is important. Eg: you may well know how to defend yourself from lets say 4 attackers, but if that situation occurs you have to be level headed and let your defence come from the soul, you may have hundreds of certs, but if you don’t focus straightaway and panic then you’ve bitten the biscuit as it were.

my name

to cloud
my name is unusual you say, what of yours?
i did not choose this name,it was given in humour from my older brother.i won’t tell you what it means as i feel you’ve already worked it out(by annalizing it)am i over 50? sorry, but no.like i’ve
stated i’m a mere begginer.

what connection do i have with b.bear and f.tiger
as we write the same you asked?
well i’m not as fierce as f.tiger
not as powerful as b.bear
so it must be we’re hak-ka and to lazy to use the caps button.what i mean is idon’t find the need to be fancy.you can mark me,judge me,its o.k.

p.s. don’t think i’m not careful of you guys either
as your all smarter than i am..

to viper
why are they fine(certs and gradings)?
nature way is the true way…

sui few- really im not that fierce.
just like the name.

i’ve been doing martial arts for over 20 years. 16 years pak mei and hakka related. i’ve been teaching for the last 8 years. i’ve found that teaching and having a grading sylibus is good for beginner student as they need motivation and direction. for the senior students they dont care anymore. there are san sou, conditioning & sensitivity drills for each level - a student knows that they have to pass a certain grade before they can move onto the higher stuff.
some students are not as into the tradition hard training as others, and half of them wouldnt have made it if i trained them the way i was trained. but it still comes down to how much effort the student puts in.

f.tiger
where i come from there is only 1 student to
1 teacher, the teacher must first learn to let go of the 1st before taking on another student.i’m not saying this is the best way ,but, this does not
cause as much problems as the other ways.

o.k,we play “lap sau” to further,as aposed to gradings,go for long walks barefooted and meditate
late in the evening(wiching hour, the west call it)

how do you know 100% your student is ready for his next grade?
we don’t,its an on going part of life as we grow.when student can fly teacher must let go.
student cannot return to train but only to play
and talk.SAN-SAU IS WHEN YOU CAN FLY and only student know this, believe me for its true as nature intended?

sorry for waffling hoped i didn’t bore you??

sui fuw,
thanks for your post, but i have to disagree that the student knows best. the reason for this, where i come from you never tell your sifu that you are ready for the next form (etc), a sifu tells a student and assesses him, then teaches him what he thinks he is ready for. of course we cannot know 100% that the student is ready, but i know my students well enough to be pretty sure. for a student to be good at kung fu you have to have a kung fu brother, what i mean is there is never ONE good kung fu man, there has to be two. it is always better to experience different body types, strengths, weaknesses etc. no disrespect to your way, this is just how i feel.

Hi Ya,
You post really worthy replies.
What you said earlier, it seems that you have some experience in teaching. I know you say you are a beginner. A beginner to what? A beginner to the end?
It seems there are no more traditional teachings anymore(Father to son) I wonder if this is your relationship?

you two tricksters

this is what i mean by careful, iknow you to are very able, and probably end up arguing on this forum.
f.t naturally learning is the only way for me,and selected few.no-one dictates to go on to next grade,as there are no grades no money just, learn.no start no finish.

what can i say?why are you so intrested in me?how can my posts be worthy.is this a worthy place to be?or is it sad?or is it fun?
i think you’ve worked out there is no beginging and ending in gung-fu.
