Firstly I just wanted to say hi to everyone on this forum, I have found loads of useful info so far 
Im from the UK and as you probably know their isnt very many kung-fu schools in the country (not that I know of anyway) Locally their are about 3-4 worth mentioning, 1 shaolin school and a couple of wing chun schools, I have attended two different wing chun schools and couldnt continue because they where too far away from my home, both schools taught differing versions of wing chun, and the teachers didnt seem that good. Im not one to judge but you can normally tell when you have a good sifu or not.
The shaolin school has just opened and is in my home town, the teacher there is a 53 year old guy who says he trained with a monk called something yang, Im not sure as our telephone conversation was breif. anyway, Im going to try this one tomorrow night for the first time in the hope that I feel comfortable.
I plan on training under this school for about a year after which I want to go to the Northern shaolin martial arts academy www.shaolins.com, and I plan to stay there for about 4 years where I can also learn mandarin.
I just wanted to know if anyone here has heard of this school or not?

If we get more Brits i can really go to town on jokes about the Americans weight problems, lack of a sense of irony (yes it does mean a bit like iron) and poor dress sense!

have a look on http://www.russbo.com to find out more information about the various Shaolin schools in and around the place… i would seriously consider this and not just rush in to it wanting to become a monk… look at doc’s site thouroghly and weigh up all the options…
As far as i know there are only a few places that teach Northern (Songshan) Shaolin in the UK… the school in London run by Shifu Shi Yanzi and his brothers, and also the schools that are part of the International Taijiquan and Shaolin Wushu Association (headed by Derek Frearson i think?)… did you mean Shi DeYang by the way?

Im not sure if thats him or not? Ill ask the teacher tomorrow night and I`ll let you know, if it is then is that a good thing?
well, i think knowing that your teacher is insured for teaching thru an association is always good 
That way him and his students are covered incase anything goes wrong in training…
I’m sure your teacher should have no qualms about telling you where he learned his skill. if indeed it was shi de yang, then it’s good Shi De Yang and his school was featured on a documenary show called ‘under the sun’ a few years ago… just around the time of the wheel of life tour. It was worth seeing - so many kids training there!

no problem, it was probably me who posted it if it’s UK related (i go by the imaginative ‘Dave’ on russbo.com)…
good luck, and it’s probably also worth checking out the guys in London if u get a chance, or a seminar or something. As they’re pretty much teaching the same as u’ll get in china. At least then u can see what’s expected and the standards etc.
