Hey everyone, I am new to the board so I figured I’d just introduce myself. I am 19 years old and I’ve trained in martial arts for about 4 years. My name is Ben and I train in a tradition kung fu style called Shen Lung Kung Fu. It is 5 animal style: tiger, mantis, snake, crane, and monkey. I’ve been introduced to tiger, mantis and a little snake. I also train in Jeet Kune Do and have some high school wrestling experience. I love to box and grapple. I am by no means an expert martial artist though. Getting to know other schools around the southeast is something I try to do. I recently went to a kung fu tournament in Biloxi, MS so maybe I saw some of you there. This seems like a great forum and I look forward to getting to know you all. Feel free to IM me; my AIM is binky361.
Hello

Yeah, welcome aboard.
Welcome, Spirit Dragon dood.
Hey
You’re a guitarist too. What do you play?

My baby is a 77’ standard Les Paul, maroon. I also love my Ibanez Iceman for playin heavier riffs. Someone recognized what Shen Lung meant, nice.
Is that the same as tien lung?
Welcome.Have a nice time here.
Nice guitar!
My baby is a 2000 Gibson LesPaul Standard DoubleCut in TransAmber finish with a chambered body.
What kind of stuff do you play? I’m mostly a blues and prog.rock man. Those extended Dave Gilmour solos… man!

Tien Lung = heavenly dragon, Shen Lung = invisible, mystical, spiritual dragon. The founder of our style practiced Tien Lung Kung Fu but created Shen Lung Kung Fu for non-taoists in America. Awesome guitar Terminal. I am big into metal, blues, and progressive rock. I’m a big Dream Theatre and Metallica fan. Gilmour is pretty awesome the solos to “comfortably numb” and “wish you were here” rule.
Thank ****…
…there is someone in the world today that appreciates the beauty of Progressive Rock, esp. Floyd. I play a hell of a lot of Floyd at the moment, I’m just in the process of mastering that second solo to Comfortably Numb - it is hard! I’m not a huge Metallica fan, but I like what I’ve heard, esp. the intro to Enter Sandman ![]()
BTW: Do you know anywhere that has the tab for the live version of The Wall (Is There Anybody Out There?). On the CD there is a great solo to Another Brick In The Wall (pt2), but I can only find the tab for the studio version, which has a way shorter (and less impressive) solo. ![]()

Woohoo! Another Metallica player. My current axe is a BC Rich Warlock copy, & it’s sweet. Welcome!

Fu(kin’ headbangers…I’m convinced GDA’s 1000th post celebration thread was deleted because Ralek with two periods and I were talking jazz. Which is, by the way, inherently superior to metal
And not only that, Charles Mingus woulda beat up Cliff Burton, no prob.

Welcome!
Kung Fu, boxing, and wrestling are great backgrounds.
Sounds like you are already pretty good at what you do. Keep at it!

Jazz guitar is one of the most difficult styles to play. I’m a metal head at heart though. Those BC rich guitars are wicked looking, haven’t heard on in action though what do they sound like?
Hi and welcome. I also play guitar (and some tenor sax) I have been on this for 34 years. My main guitars are a natural Gibson es175 and a jumbo acoustic Guild. I mostly play Jazz but I did everything in my playing years; Rock, pop, classical, blues, country etc…
I even played a renaissance luth for some times. I guess I crosstrained in music!!! ![]()

Les écrits restent!..
Mmm
… the ES175 (drool). Ah well, when I’ve got my 1954 Gibson LesPaul GoldTop, I’ll be the King of you all, you hear me - THE KING!! (CRAZY LAUGH)

RE: BC Rich Warlocks. Nice treble response on some of them, though they lack good mids at around 1K and their bass response was muddy even for 80’s standards. Nowadays, they’re way too sludgy with a dry signal. Gotta parametric EQ 'em to give 'em a nice even broadband response.
BTW, the technical exercise for jazz runs and late-era metal are quite often identical. ![]()
