New Shaolin Ditang Tape

Has any body seen that new Shaolin Ditang video? How is the quality of movement? How long is it? In your opinion, is it worth buying?

groundward fist

That’s a great title, yes?

I reviewed all those videos when they came in. They’re all about the same quality, although one or two stand out (the broadsword in particular.) Most are filmed at the elevated clearing next to the temple. You can learn off of these, but not without some prior training.

To be honest, you have to be pretty good to learn the ditang form. It’s pretty brutal. There are no breakdowns on how to fall, but my experience of studying drunken at shaolin (akin to ditang) is that they don’t break it down there either. The video is clear enough to follow, but this is definately for someone with some experience or a really big padded room.

Is this pretty much the same as a modern wushu ditang form? A friend of mine learned some and I thought it might be good reference…

hmmm, good question

I’m not that familiar with the modern wushu version - there’s no compulsory ditang, is there? I imagine it’s pretty close tho. I’ve been working on a traditional ditang video from Grandmaster Chan Sau Chung, and like many traditional ditangs, it only contains a few rolls. The ‘groundward fist’ has a lot of crazy falls akin to what you see with modern wushu, I imagine.
