My 1st post - please help if u can

Hello to everybody here.

I have been looking and surfing really hard to find a SanShou/Sanda club/school/teacher in or anywhere around the Peterborough (Cambs, UK) area, this would include Stamford, Boston, Spalding (Lincs) areas which are mostly appx 20 or so miles from Peterborough. So far, I have found almost nothing!.

There are a couple of JJ clubs and probably a bit of Karate but I am not interested in those, I have done quite a bit of research and know that Chinese kickboxing is the one I want to learn.

If anyone can help I would GREATLY appreciate it, I will be a very keen & dedicated student.

thank you

regards

Hello and welcome to the forum!

While I cannot help you, I can at least offer you some simple guidelines. You will learn that:

  1. San Shou is NOT a Chinese art.

  2. San Shou IS a Chinese art.

  3. San Shou isn’t traditional.

  4. San Shou IS traditional.

  5. “Traditional” fighters don’t do well in San Shou.

  6. “Traditional” fighters do fine in San Shou.

  7. SifuAbel and lkfmdc really need to get a private room when they say such nice things about each other.

I believe Liokault may be able to help you. He might be in touch with that circuit…

Nope not any san shou in Cambs as far as I know.

We did used to have a class supported in there (as an Oxford v cambridge collage thing) but I think that its no longer ongoing and it was only tai chi not san shou.

From a friend in Cambs I hear that their is not much in the way of martial arts.

That jiujitsu club may be worth a look if theres no good CMA. If theres some good CMA however, you can go there and make friends with a good training partner… You can then beat each other sensless with no rules!
Unless you are looking for competition fighting…

hello

i am a new guy too

That’s nice.

Here’s a quick overview of how you will be treated here on KFO;

  1. people will tell you you are not doing Chinese martial art

  2. people will tell you you have deteriorated in kickboxing

  3. people will accuse you of disresecting them, they will curse you out in the process

  4. a few us us (me, San Shou Guru, Shaolin Tiger) will give you some good advice

  5. You’ll learn inside jokes about Flan and sheep f–cking

  6. A fine time will be had by all

LOL! I forgot about this one!

people will tell you you have deteriorated into kickboxing

Too true! Too bad the people who say it don’t really know what they’re talking about.

thks for replies

hi everyone,
firstly let me clarify that it is the Peterborough area which is just near the Cambs / Lincs borders & not Cambridge town itself (just referring to county in original post).

I really do want to learn SanShou and as I mentioned, I have been looking very hard, on the net, through phone books, and even a little bit of asking around at the gym I have just joined (weights) due to very recently moving up here (between Peterborough & Spalding, {right in the sticks guys, bad for Martial Arts clubs I guess } :frowning: )

Anyway, I have found the name of Mr Mo Ramji who apparently teaches SS in Peterborough and have emailed him about a week ago but have received no reply, maybe he no longer teaches or perhaps he simply does not take on beginners.

I have done considerable research and have decided that Sanshou/Sanda is exactly what I want to do. I have compared it with Muay Thai and KB and have watched a few basic demo videos over the net.

I would be a beginner but am not entirely new to Martial Arts.
so If there is someone who is prepared to take on a very keen & dedicated beginner

So I am still looking, I will probably have to give some thought to travelling down to London or another big town a bit closer, I will find a teacher no matter what !.

Once again, if anyone on these excellent boards knows of someone anywhere between Peterborough & London I would really appreciate some contact details.

thank you
