China has also been making a splash at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. The event is not only famous for its star-studded red carpet, it’s also one of the most influential platforms to promote and showcase new movies.

The team behind the Chinese animated film “The Legend of a Rabbit 2” is using the festival to launch a trailer for a sequel to the film, Legend of a Rabbit: Martial on Fire.

The new film will reunite most of the creative and production elements from the first film which debut in 2011.

Producer Wang Dafang has also revealed a famous Chinese star who will be cast in the sequel.

“Our leading actor is Xu Zheng, we just signed him on board and he is the No. 1 star director right now in China. With the movie ‘Lost in Thailand’ and it has grossed $200 million (USD), so he is voicing the rabbit for us so we are very happy to have him on the cast.”

Wu Qi, producer of a recent film Lemon who has recently won fame for his new promotions and marketing strategy for the film is the 3D animated movie’s co-producer.

No info on a release date for the animated film as of yet.

Easternlight takes bite of Rabbit sequel

Easternlight Films, the Asia-focused label of Arclight Films Pty Ltd, has picked up world sales of 3-D animation sequel Legend of a Rabbit: The Martial of Fire from China’s Tianjin North Film Group .

The original Legend of a Rabbit (2011), which is also in 3-D, made RMB16.6 million (US$2.65 million) in China and also opened theatrically in Singapore, Thailand, South Korea, Russia and Portugal.

The new film was one of several Chinese-language titles to have high-profile launches during the Cannes market in the past week. The film has one more market screening today at 2pm in Palais K, in its “Cannes Cut”.
