The jabs and attacks are tolerated by the moderators, irrespective of whether or not they show an acceptable attitude. I’m sure that some folks here would ban or suspend, if they had the authority. And apparently, some others here would not.

But considering the lax (read nonexistant) moderation standards, and it being a free country and all, you can’t ban kanpoopyguy for posting really can you? And as I have already said, every thing you say about him applies 100% equally to “hardwork” who is also extremely unpopular here

if you ban him, there is a long list of others, some would argue worse, who would have to be banned

Seriously, in terms of banning, we’ve always had a very lax policy here. The reason? It’s mostly a numbers game. We’re like to keep our numbers up. We are funded by a commercial enterprise, so numbers count.
Also, this is a martial arts forum, so I firmly believe everyone should fight their own battles. It amazes me how many people get offended and ask me to step in - people I respect as martial artists - frankly, if you can’t take the heat…:rolleyes:
The bulk of the bans are for porn, spam and the occasional legal action. These are all handled as discreetly as possible. After all, discretion is the better part of valor. I generally don’t ban people because they are rude or ignorant because I fear that the list of banned people would soon outnumber the members.
I will say this, mostly because lkfmdc is in my face about this: lkfmdc complains the most to me directly via PM and email. lkfmdc, I get about twice as many complaints from you than the entire forum. What is up with that?

Honestly Gene, I’ve been here for YEARS (how long, I don’t even know?). In all that time I’ve sent you 4 PM"s that I am aware of, maybe a grand total of 6 (maybe 7?? who knows??)… if that makes me the all time number one then we have quite a passive lot here don’t we?

That doesn’t actually follow logically. Web forums, no matter how much they get pitched and treated as a commons, are still ultimately private spaces with specific owners. If I had a forum and I decided to ban someone because I didn’t like what they were saying, that’s basically no different from me kicking someone out of my house for the same reason.
Granted, you get into a lot of difficulties in terms of consistency and deciding exactly how heavy-handed or exclusive to be, but it’s nothing to do with free or unfree countries.
