I live in Montreal and was thinking about taking up a CMA. I found these sites while researching online, but haven’t any idea of telling how good these instructors are!
I am planning on visiting these school, and a few others that are unlisted, but wanted to know what to look for in a qualified CMA instructor. Any input will be appreciated.
As well, if you’ve heard of a good CMA instructor in Montreal, but is not on this list please mention his name. I’m not fixated on any particular style and am open to pretty much anything.
(BTW: These are some of the nearby schools I mentioned. If you’ve heard of any of these guys let me know.)
John Hum is good. Nice guy too. In addition to training CMA at Wu Tan in Taiwan, under Grandmaster Liu Yun Qaio, he has black belts in Shotokan and TKD and studied Muay Thai boxing.
I actally used to train at GAMMA/BTT (Brazilian Top Team) school located in montreal under Fabio Holanda, but I was hoping to get away from mma and do a traditional style!
Not that there’s anything wrong with BJJ or BTT, but I’m looking for other elements in my martial arts training. MMA is exclusively fight oriented, and I’m looking for more than that.
I would reccomend my friend Mauricio. He teaches progressive martial arts but has a traditional background in Wing Chun and Kali (he’s an escrimador). However, I am not certain where he is located. lol
I could get you guys in touch with each other though. If you’re interested drop me a pm and I will get that wheel rolling.
Other than that, I would say your best bet is to go have a look see at the ones that peaque yer interest and decide if they’re for you or not.

haha
Is he at least in Montreal? Or is he just in Canada?
“Hey, I have a friend who lives in Canada. Do you know him?”
he used to train guys out of a place called Legends gym, but when I say I am not sure of his location, I mean, I am not sure where he is training guys out of anymore.
I’d have to ask him. Anyway, the guys methods are sound and his skeelz are good. his students are also a good reflection of his ability to teach.
