Thats right I’m a MMA that means I’m better than all y’all motha****as
Perhaps, technically. But people might look twice before accepting that T’ai Chi Ch’uan and another Kung-Fu~ makes for a mixed martial artist.
Stacey
errr yeah… well done… brilliant.
So can you actualy fight or is this just an i know more than you contest?
Ive done more martial arts systems than most people know exist… Im not proud of it becouse only one so far has actualy gotten me to an effiecent level. The rest just gave me tools, this one teaches me to use them. Its not how much or how little you know its how you use what you have.
Enter an MMA tournament. You’ll find out soon enough.
Well said jon. i think that Stacey was only trying to make fun of all the people who believe there particular MMA style is without a question the best ever. Maybe they are, i’m not one to judge. However Stacey, I wouldn’t call Taijiquan and an other kind of kung fu MMA. Just my thoughts.

I guessed she was just having a go from her tone but i felt the point of my post remained the same regardles of style or whether its so called MMA. If it works it works, if not who cares what its called. Besides which nearly all of the larger systems around now including kung fu systems are conglomerates of different skills.
I could name at least 5 masters in my style alone who have brought in elements from other systems. The main thing is to keep with the thinking and spirit of the system imho.
Staceee
In my mind you can be or be called whatever you like. You are so beautiful!!

It’s a good point to be made jon. You sound like you really know what you are talking about from all your posts. Not to try and steal this thread or anything, but i’d be curious to know what styles/systems that you do train?
I think Jon trains Hung Gar.
And Tai Chi is a kind of Kung Fu isn’t it? So its not really mixed martial arts is it?
NO YOU CAN’T
Sorry, but only those that do Brazillian jujitsu, Muy Tai, Boxing or Kick Boxing mixtures are MMA’s.
The rest of us are just looseres.

Thank you kindly for your words that means a lot to me:)
Thank you also for your interest. As scotty1 stated im a Hung Ga student though ive dabled in a fair few arts to get there.
Again thanks was nice to know someone liked my posts.
The people doing MMA are taking only what is effective in the ring. When you say you do many styles you are cross training or adding, but in the sence of what the NHB world is talking about is training on only the aspects that work for that type of competition. So basically they are specializing in submission, wrestling and kickboxing skills that will be used. they dont care about the defense against a club/knife/gun… or simple wrist escapes. that is unnessesary.
The other issue is everyone who claims they have taken two or three styles and “Created thier Own” and are now “Soke”.
I hold Black Belts in a couple styles. After 22 years Im still not a Soke, just a guy who is better rounded than 10 years ago.
Does it make me a MMA?
You’re an internet transvestite. Like I care.
Didn’t the term ‘Mixed Martial Artist’ come from NHB compititons? I’m not sure. I mean I’m sure there have been ‘Mixed Martial Artists’ since there were martial arts but I though the term really started getting used around the time of the NHB comptitions. Or maybe it came from Bruce? Anyway, I think the idea of a MMA from a NHB stand point is about like Royal Dragon said. By doing Taijiquan and kung fu you are I guess doing two different arts and then would tecnicaly be a MMA, but not by UFC standards I don’t think. However I could be wrong in all of this. When I think of Mixed Martial Artist i think of some bad@@s mofo who will kill me in the ring standing or on the ground with boxing combos wrestling grappling kicks and all kinds of crazy stuff. If you own a race car and drive it to the store on once a week does that make you a ‘race car’ driver? maybe. But I think your a really race car driver when you actually race on a race track. does that make sence? well It’s not a great example but I guess it get’s the point across. big Truck
I kind of consider myself a MMA. I study Genbukan Ninpo (which is composed of several ninpo ryu-ha), Kokusai Jujutsu (which is composed of several jujutsu ryu-ha), and Chugoku Kempo (which focuses on Hakkesho). However, these styles are all very similar to the eye. The only thing I do that is radically different is good ol’ fashion YMCA boxing (which I consider to be the best non-grappling martial art around). I think most MMA people do things which are completely different, such as Muay Thai and BJJ, or some other crazy hybrids. I once met this guy who claimed to study Aikido, Savate, BJJ, and Capoeira. I wondered how he kept from getting confused when fighting!
“I once met this guy who claimed to study Aikido, Savate, BJJ, and Capoeira. I wondered how he kept from getting confused when fighting!”
Im sure it wasnt at the same time, if it was where did he find the time?
Outside of that, many people study different styles and if you stay in the arts long enough you will learn more than one style. You end up blending together what you learn, its not like you step back ionto Aikido styles then change to Ju Jitsu, its all one.
Fighting styles are concepts, you change them according to the individuals and the needs. A punch is a punch.
Ive studied many different styles, I dont consider myself a MMA, just have more knowledge than before.
