I was looking at some pics of Hung Gar cuz i was considering taking it, but the stances looked very weird and off balancing…
Is it really possible to fight somebody like that in a street fight? Using the crane “pecking”? and leaning so far foward with the tiger style, what if you miss and get side kicked in the head, it looks like you’d surely fall, correct me if im wrong though, but are those stances strong enough to be attacked from every angle? be honest too, and tell me how it is more effective doing these strange movements, they appear very off balancing, i keep an open mind, so dont think im trolling or flamming or anything, can someone help?

i can’t really claim to be a hung gar guy…but, keep in mind those stances are designed for extreme stability from one or two directions…the idea is tho that your transitioning into the stances in coordination with your hand work to attack/defend an attacker with maximum power…not to be stable from any direction you might be pushed…hung gar(as far as i know) stances, when done correctly should feel solid(this doesnt mean however you arent more balance forward and backward than side to side in a bow stance)
that pecking hand with the sidestep-pivot catstance, feetplay has many applications;you could use a fist. When say using a double tiger claw in bow you wouldnt do that offensively unless fighting a zombie, but it would be used after you have stolen your opponents center, say when you wiped his initial attack to the side settiong his stance off-balance..then you smash him!!.
hope this helps,my style has hunggar similarity’s.
One claw out one by the elbow–a lot of commitment. The positions, are seen stop framed at one Point. The techniques are designed to cover each other. While you attack the commitment I ws in a moment ago, I am aware of where you’re attacking and might even be aware how, because I left the window open and am waiting for you to enter. If you try to come through the window I’ll catch you. I’ll pull you through or knock you out~. If you do something else I’ll go through a(nother) door.
Very some such, perhaps might have been, likely say some, some not.
the stances you are referring too, are at the end of a move. not really the best point when it has been completed to understand the intention of the move.
the move, from start to finish of the stance, is where all the work is, this goes also for tiger claws, and the crane usage you have described.
all i can suggest is if you can go to a school that is of hung gar and see how it works.
from this you will see and understand the questions you have asked.
photo’s do not show everything only the piece of time it has taken, and unless you understand the principles, conclusions like you have felt is understandable.
in anything, if what technique you do doesn’t come off, the result can be dangerous, so seeing and feeling how it is suppose too work first hand would help you greatly
