Check out āAsian Fighting Artsā by Smith and Draeger.
K. Mark Hoover
Chinese Boxing: Masters and Methods is also a good read. Also by Smith. Not all the guys are world famous, but its great to get a feel for what the martial community is like, and to get a view of martial artists as somewhat regular people.
Thanks you guys Iāll have to check those out! Yeah I feel that it might help me become better in the arts if I get a better understanding of where they came from and the old legends of masters and stuff. ![]()

Donāt isolate your studies to legends of masters. Check out the true stories of practitioners to get a realistic view of kung fu. Most of them donāt reveal a wondrous and mysterious secret world, but instead speak volumes for the benefits gained from a disciplined and well-guided study of kung fu, or, for that matter, any course of study.
Didnāt Robert Smith confess that that book āAsian Fighting Artsā was at least partly made up as a fictional ājoke?ā
Was that āAsian Fighting Artsā? Iāve read the quote(I think in an Asian Journal of Martial Arts interview done recently). I think he credited Draeger with the idea for the ājokeā.

I think your refering to āSecret Fighting Arts of the Worldā written by Smith under the name John F. Gilbey

Thatās it!
isnt that the book that has the secret art of eating chilli peppers and burping in peoples faces to knock them out ā¦
or something to that extent
??
I wongsifu shall strike fear into the hearts of trolls and mma guys who **** me off on these forums oh and in real life.
Its got lots of crazy stories. The Parisian Halitosis Attack was one of them.
My favorite is where the author is in an Icelandic train station and see a man punch an iron stancion and leave the impression of his fist in it.
did you know eating chile peppers can actually build up your pain tolerance.
DOH!!
You mean when it comes out ??
