Thereās this little song I get to sing once a year on my birthday..and as long as I can remember, weāve always sung it. Itās kind of a tradition in our family..although I have heard other people sing a song that was almost identical to the one we sing on my birthday, but they sometimes changes the wordsā¦I thought Iād share it with you on your special day..because I think itās a special song..because itās only sung on my birthday..or sometimes other peopleās birthdayās but with different words that they sing in it..the song.
So..without further adieu..or a do..or ok, so here it is..nowā¦ok..

If you like, you can change the song when you sing it, because sometimes people do that, so you donāt have to say, or sing, āHappy Birthday dear Rik,ā because your name isnāt Rik, itās Gene..unless you change your name to Rik, so you can say Geneā¦instead of Rikā¦but I usually donāt make any changes, and I just say, or sing..I usually sing it..Rik, and not Geneā¦
I kinda find it funny when I hear other people sing it and they say the other names..sometimes, Tommy..and not Rik, or sometimes Leonard..and not Rik..but when I am at a Birthday Party, I still sing it the way I was taught, (being a traditionalist, and all..) but sometimes people get kinda upset, when theyāre singing it changed from the way I learned it and theyāre singing, āHappy Birthday dear Leonard,ā and they hear my voice singing,āRik,ā sometimes they donāt invite me back to their birthday parties next year..or the year after that..or the year after that..but when yuo sing it, because itās special on your birthday, you can say, āGene.ā
