Going to Hong Kong and Canton

Hey everyone, I will be going to hong kong, canton (toi san & fut san) at the end of the month for about 10 days.

I wanted to know if anyone has the addresses of some good schools to visit while I’m there.

I have contacts already, but it’s always good to have additional info.

I’m interested in visiting CLF schools, Bok Hok/Lama/Hop Ga, along with Bok Mei, and I’m looking for the address of the Dai Sing Pek Gwa school that I’ve heard mentioned on the site before.

I do speak cantonese, but I’ve never been there before. Any advice from seasoned travellers would also be most appreciated.

Best of luck…

whats up lama,

if you get a chance, you should visit the fut san hung sing kwoon. there are a number of different sifu’s there, but my sifu is Lok Gee Hung and if you get a chance to meet him, tell him i said hello. Please.

anyways, if you’re you’ve got a strong stomach, i suggest you try the snake wine while you’re there. have a good time.

Dear Mr. Parella,

may I ask what is the intent of visiting schools during your trip to HK and Guangzhou? Watching…learning or understanding?

Regards,

Luca

Visiting some friends in Hong Kong, helping out one of the schools there (business wise). I’m also demonstrating at the “New Martial Hero” magazine banquet on December 3rd.

Traveling to Canton to see old students of my late Sifu and to see the temple where here was raised. Possibly pick up a few forms, video a lot of stuff.

Taking my wife, so a little sightseeing, lot’s of shopping, etc.

so last month i pick up the copy of inside kung fu, see the back page said next month: secrets of chan tai sans lama pai.

went this month, picked up new issue…

NO ARTICLE ON LAMA PAI!!!

Lama Pai Sifu,

You have got a PM.

Regards.

Hey..I saw the end of last month’s IKF as well. As a matter of fact, that’s a pic of me with my Sifu, Chan Tai-San. I opened up this month’s issue and was like WTF!!!

No article, no pics of me! What the hell is going on? Ha ha ha!

Hello - I’m off to HK too for three weeks in early December. Unlucky for me, I twisted my back and knee shoveling snow (don’t ask how, and yes, I’m from Canada) and don’t know how I’ll even survive the 20 hour plane ride over…fortunatley, my kung fu “uncle” is a Dr. of bone / muscle medicine and herbology, so the trip won’t be entirely wasted!

Anyway, wondering if anyone has any advice on two things;

1 - what can anyone reccomend for “digestive” health / protection (e.g. papaya, bromilaine, general digestive enzymes, etc.). What’s worked, what hasn’t?

2 - does anyone have any suggestions for gifts to a TCMA teacher, aside from money or booze (e.g. cognac)? It’s hard to find anything appropriate or relevant!

Sorry - posted twice due to slowness of connection these days?

depends on what your area in Canada is famous for and what your kung fu “uncle” likes.

I brought good quality beef for cooking steaks, once,
my area is famous for its seafood - so fresh frozen abalone,
and your standard booze,

and Lai See (red envelope).

anyway its the thought that counts and if you put some thought into it you should be fine.

dude…u must do wut krillin (kuririn) did in the first Dragon Ball episode/ manga.

bring the sifu a stack of porn.

im azn. i know these things.

GruBianca - are you from italy?

do i know you? thanks.

friday

do you know me? Well,… I don’t know… depends on where are you from, which style you practice… if you identify yourself I’ll be surely able to reply correctly to that question  .

Regards,

thank you

Hi Friday - thanks for the suggestion - I did buy some local food specialities too. And the red envelope, booze, etc. is always good… I guess I’m just a lousy “gift buyer” - I know it’s the thought that counts…but there are some cultural difficulties around this as well…

htown dragon - I appreciate the advice, but this would not be appropriate for my own circumstance.

Thank you,

Ao Qin

(still looking for advice on nutritional health in HK!?)

hahaha - you signed off as Luca

you must be who i think you are.

and give some thought to it.

let me guess you are married.

you have been to Hong Kong many times.

you are italian.

the Sifu you and i both know in HK is Mister C*****.

the last time we met was in my country when you came over on a business trip about…3-4 years ago.

 who do you think i am?

 friday,

you must be Dennis,…Am I right?
then your country should be Australia which I’ve not been visiting for more then 4 years  .
I am married now but I wasn’t that time
I visited many times Hk and still I do,… might even move there soon
but C******** is not my Sifu he is my Sigong :stuck_out_tongue:

If you are Dennis,…how’s your knee now? Why have you disappeard all of a sudden  ??? R u still in touch with my Sigong???

 Ciao

In Hong Kong

Hey everyone! Just arrived in Hong Kong, met up with some friends here. Will be going to the Lau Family Kung-Fu School with Mark Houghton and Lau Ga Yung to spend the day. Fill eveyone in on details when I get back to hotel. So far, HK looks a bit like NYC. Going for Dim Sum now and a little shopping before lunch.

Later!

Hey Mike,
There’s a mall there and one of my students picked up a jacket for me, that you would probably like. It looks like a Chinese jacket,Manderin collar, frog buttons, but it’s made out of black leather-it looks amazing. Troble is, my Si-Hing has the same one, so if we all show up wearing it, we’ll look like a bunch of faegellas:eek: ! LOL! Bring home some snake ***** wine!

Michael, if you will be in Foshan I might be able to talk Sifu into meeting with you and discuss Futshan Bak Mei. Since I do not know you or your character not sure what his feelings would be but if you want I can check with him. I will be there at the end of January for about a month. Let me know.

Hi,

Go to the Ancestors temple in Foshan, its a bit tourist orientated but they have lion dancing and kung fu demos. The most wushu orientated Tiger and Crane for I have ever seen in the officual demo team but sometimes a Choy Li fut school demo forms and they seem ok.

Also Yip Man Tong and Wong Fei Hung Museum oin there…many locals hang about.

Oh get down to the Jing Mo Kwoon in the park sometime you will see lung Ying Pai and always plenty of tai chi and othe rbits and bobs going on. In the mornings the park is full and try and meet with my tai chi sigung Ou Rong Ji. He has a group doing Tai Chi and Water Boxing but he has also done, Eagle, Mantis etc within the Jing Mo.

Happy travelling
Paul
