The early films were fantastic and got me really buzzed about Aikido, then I went to visit a few clubs and stayed away. Hr brought a different visual to screen violence and did it rather well.

a friend described aikido as “camera-friendly” - picks up on the wristlocks/throws etc nicely and really was a breath of fresh air to the action movies genre which was 99% kickboxing-type fights

Hard to Kill GIFs

Seagals Aikido took advantage of his height and weight advantage to the max.
I have yet to see ANY aikido in a “real fight” ( vs a trained fighter).

yeah, agree… within aikido, seagal had legit skills… outside of aikido, well, movies are not reality… with that said, loved the ‘look’ of his aikido onscreen especially in his early movies

Seagal’s aikido

Aikido took the biggest drubbing from the MMA craze of all the styles.

As for Seagal, his guitar playing forever besmirched his aikido for me. :frowning:

I liked some of Seagal’s early movies…Above the Law, Marked For Death, Out For Justice, and Under Siege (Hard to Kill, not so much). Everything went downhill after Under Siege, which is ironic because, if I remember correctly, that was Seagal’s biggest-budgeted and most commercially successful film (I don’t feel like Googling to confirm or not).
