Gene!!!-Drunken Gung-Fu// Cotton In Needle Training

Gene, you know about hunggar, what is your knowledge on these, and who is the 5triad ancestors you mentioned?, my impression the ironwire is like a fighting chikung kind of like daily vitamins isolating and building the jings of your style?, and my impression of drunken sets, is similar to chen taiji fahjing techniques teaching you to fight multiple opponnents at odd angles?. Anyone else care to add anything…NorthernShaolin anything you wish to share from your research, I’m under the impression maybe one school of thought made formulated the theorys wich many styles train as various drunken and cotton needle sets.

This is a edit, heres the original question, also i dont know any versions of these sets but have seen a few, I also have Leung Tings drunken book but its in chinese, it features a drunken master who offhand his name i cant recall.

Drunken Gung-Fu// Cotton In Needle Training
many styles have these, i know hunggar has these, i know lions roar tibet gf has these, and i think choy li fut and bak mei even have these.

What is thier trianing purpose, and what is the history as many styles have the same makeup kit who started this?.
If You Please

Can you narrow your question a bit?

I’m not sure what you’re asking…:frowning:

Basically, is thier any concrete history, who first thought up drunken sets, and ironwire or cotton needle sets?" i think thats how to describe these- the main fighting chigung set in hungga titsinkuen…many styles have these in the south!, do the northerns?"

Even praying mantis northern style i asked this at the pm forum, and some branches have drunken sets, so one person/team had to first formulate whatever theorys made these sets, with many physically differant appearances, within the respective styles!.

That’s way to big a question…

But FWIW, let’s just look at drunken styles. Myths of drunken warrriors abound in China, so it’s not surprising that many styles would have drunken sets. It’s kind of like monkey staff. The myth is derived from Journey to the West, and many styles echo it. But if you’re looking for a single sourcepoint, good luck. You can find single sourcepoints within a particular style, but for all styles? China will drive you mad looking for that. I remember Jackie Chan once talking about how he developed drunken style for his movies, by looking at stuff, researching, and then elaborating and improvising. Now I hear some people looking at his stuff as the real mccoy. Is Jackie a source point? In a manner of speaking, yes. Is he the main source point, not by a long shot.

hehe, i didnt think id get the url to a secret book:D
Do you know if thier was a official drunken style, i have leung tings book with a chinese master but it is written in chinese, do you know the lineage of this drunken immortal book, it is just one form and accompanying applications!. I read on a choylifut site thier was no actual drunken style persae, just an attitude as you eluded, when they mentioned the history behind thier lineages drunk set… can you clear this up for me, im basically running a brainstorm search, trying to get differant points why styles use these methods, so i can get a better understanding on these methods purpose, wich is interesting to me in the fight game, in hopgar branches they have these sets, as suppossed high level training, but i have also talk to people who mentioned they dont bother with ironwire training, as thiers really nothing in thier that they would use in a fight.

Imitative boxing

Drunken falls under the catagory of imitative boxing like the animal styles. This means that it’s both an individual method and one that has been incorporated into other systems. Compare it to dragon style - there are independant dragon style systems, dragon sets in various systems, and dragon movements in individual sets in various systems.

So to quote SNL, it’s a floor wax and a desert topping.

Iron wire is a different topic - and the “use it in fight” denial never worked for me - I practice some obscure weapons like tamo cane, and I’d certainly never use it in a fight (OK, well, I might if I got the chance but that seems very unlikely.)
