Filling a heavy bag

Just got my first heavy bag, but I don’t know how to fill it. The directions say to add a 6" layer of clothes and then a 3-5 lbs bag of sand, repeat until filled… I started to do this but it didn’t feel like bags that I’ve worked on before. Whats the conventional way to do it?

i filled mine with roadkill i collected over a 4 month perioid.

what they are suggesting makes sense. the clothes will keep the sand from packing down at the bottom of the bag. i would do it the way the directions said and give it a day or two of working on it to see how it settles.

How about filling it just with clothes?
I don’t have easy access to sand…

you don’t have a hardware store within 20 miles?

just clothes would work though. i have two hanging bags (only one actually hung up though) and a duffle bag stuffed with clothes that sits on either side of a chimeny in my basement. i use it to practice low kicks on. the thing is i have to turn it around every couple kicks because it folds in on itself pretty quick. im not sure how practical it would be for a hanging bag because of it’s light weight, but it would definatley be better than nothing.

I filled my bag with saw dust. It doesnt pack down as much and has a nice feel when you hit it.

Metal saw dust from a machine shop babaay!!!

Seriously though, I’m nuts don’t listen to me

The Bag i have now is filled with shreadded cloth. If you going to use old cloths, you need to shread them into 2" X 6-8" strips and pack that in there. Full complete cloths is way too bulky to get the store bought feel of your bag.

My bag does’nt even have sand in it, and it’s 80 pounds, a great wieght for just about anything short of trying to develop punches that can kill Bears!!! (I don’t mean the Chicago kind neither  )

if the bag felt funny it was probably because the sand hadn’t packed down the clothes yet to give it an even feel. i really think their idea is pretty good if you want allot of weight. i wouldnt buy small bags of sand though, just get a couple 50s and use a bucket or something if you want to make the layers even.

royal dragon’s got a point too. the one i have set up on the ground is filled with clothing intact. weight wasn’t really an issue on this bag though as its set up against a brick chimney. i actually like the give too. it makes me feel powerful.
