Having recently moved to the Dallas area I have found two schools and was looking for information on them. The first www.geocities.com/kungfuusa there’s no kind of lineage description and the same teacher trains all their instructors. The second http://www.ntkfe.com/ is having a grand opening, and the lineage is very interesting. Any information on either of these schools would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much for your response. I have added him to my list of schools to check out. In the meantime I noticed that you and the N.T.K.F.E. share similar roots, does that mean that your teaching styles are also similar. By that I mean are you more forms than application based, vise-versa, or is it a balance between the two?
I have no information on the teaching style presently engaged in by the KFE organization or if there is a common method, sorry. However we do share roots in terms of sets, principles and theory.
My teacher was the late Sifu Brendan Lai. He emphasised a principle/ application approach, (using Mantis Boxing principles not JKD principles as many schools do today). We do teach sets where they apply to what is being done in class and as they help develop the Gongfu of the student. We are a traditional Gongfu school that teaches the art with an eye towards application.
Teaching styles vary form school to school. We would be different from each other for that reason alone. I would suggest that you check out all of us, talk to the instructors and find the one that fits you. I believe that you will find the KFE a welcoming group as well as us.
There is also an 8 Step school in North Richland Hills taught by Sifu Van. See www.8step.com for phone number. I’ll be opening a school in Austin in the Spring.
