I was wondering if people could help me in my search for good Connecticut schools.

I’m not a slacker, and I am good at using computers, but I am having a hard time finding the right schools, or even information to aid me in my search for classes to attend in Connecticut.

I have found one at www.white-lotus.com which seems like something worth checking out.

Which also apparently stopped having a website 7 hours after I found it. Fortunatly they have a teacher who does Reiki at my college so I can and will get in contact with him.

And I also havve come across Ilya A. Profatilov who runs http://prayingmantisboxing.com/ (many thanks to mantis108 for this) but I am not sure if he even teaches or what the situation is yet.

I have also found a Shaolin Wushu school in the area. http://www.wushucenter.com/ and several Aikido/Hopkido schools.

I particularly would like to learn Mantis Boxing, and/or Shaolin forms, but due to my area I might have to not be so picky and attend a Wing Chun, Hapkido, BJJ, GJJ, or any other school I can. I will settle for anything that is as pure as can be. I’m not particularly looking for anything special, I would just prefer one of those two styles.

Anyways, if you can help me in my search for schools in Ct it will be greatly appreceated. Thank you in advance.

The only problem is that both of their schools are well over an hour from my location. Between that, full time school, and a part time job, I’d get one session in a week if that.

Which I am willing to do if that’s what has to be done. But I would like to find something of the same nature closer to home so I can attend as regularly as possible.

hmmm unless you got an international champion or a student of master hu’s you arent really gonna find anything “like” it. I am sure there are other good schools. Dont forget to ask about lineage and such because there are a lot of “fake” schools out there these days.

Yes. That’s what I meant, a school with true lineage.

As of right now almost any school would be a good school because I am currently not a student anywhere, but I firmly belief in doing things right the first time, so I can progress in the future instead of make up for the past.

I will most definatly keep this school at the top of my list, and once again, thank you very much for your help and thoughts.

Long time forum member & pimp Subitai (Onassis) was having some kind of training class going on out there in CT.
If he’s still on the east coast, you may want to check that out.
Mean Gene Ching would have more info than me; as they both trained together at Wing Lam’s.

If you attend Yale and don’t mind being tought by some one younger than you I could teach you what I know.

BUT there are rules.

  1. You tell noone you know anything of martial arts unless you are conceiled from the public like this website.
  2. I only use deadly force when needed
  3. And if you kill someone by accident don’t mention my name, EVER.
    I’m not registered.
    I think they could charge me with your murder or assault.

As far as my linage I’m not Chinese, niether was my instructor, but his intructor’s were.

But, he became a master 20 years ago. (now 50 something and is more flexible than me, it irratates me)

You could IM me and I could maybe see what I can do
for you.

Another rule was the rule of my intsructor

  • Never tell what style you were teaching a person

Yeah, I know. Sounds silly right.

I know why he did it that way, it gets you in places like this trying to find out what it is your doing. Keeps you curious and in your studies.

Also I would recommend if you learn from me to be prepared everyday for either a workout or a punch from nowhere ( no contact just honing your reflexes ).

But i am know registered artist I would strongly reccomend Malee or one of those Wingtsun schools
and besides I’m 17
you might doubt the art
and doubt clouds your ability to see the answer.

It has very close fundamental training of Shaolin
Boxing is in there, Wingtsun also
It’s just you dont exactly know when you’re learning one of those
The stances sre all modified for street fights, economy, and mobility.

I wont charge, because I dont think I can.

Besides that I think you might be able to get a couple of books and read to get an understanding of how much you’d be in for learning.

Also you will have to provide an essay to why you want to start learning Kung-Fu.
and be truthful if you descide, yes.
There will also be a contract like survey asking your level of dedication and an agreement to learn a minimum of an amount of time.
You will see the results almost immediatly in how you feel.
(three months)
You will also be co-trained by some of my family members, it helped me train for multiple opponents. :smiley: never had a fair fight since. But never lost either.

Also age is just a number, but knowledge and wisdom is what you measure a peer by.

Oh yeah and don’t call me master, or sifu. Just call me dude or somthing

I was serious.
and he doesn’t have to neccasarily be a student in the school he could be in the Yale area of downtown. New Haven.
And I know my stuff I just have slight control problems.
And thats the way I was tought, and i know it sounds crazy so is my cousin(instructor).
And 8 years is more than enough time for a karate practitioner to have two blackbelts.
And for me to still be studying and still have harder practices and learning sessions everyday, that I train (considering it is awfully cold)
I think I can offer him the same challenge.
I turned my life around with MA.
In the beginning I was just protecting myself.
On the way up I joined a gang and became a bully.
Until four years ago I didn’t know that I had to respect the knowledge I have.
Now that I umderstand the power I have, wisdom is what I have from it.
I’m still killing some bad habits, but they don’t interfere with my training and development.
And when I turn 18 I’m thinking about registering my hands for the sole-purpose of being able to have a school.
I’ll enrole in a school to find the measure of my ranking and I will get some recognition of being high in rank enough t have my own school.

So dont bring me down, man.
I’m just offering options.

Right now unless I hear otherwise from Ilya A. Profatilov (which I have not yet heard back from as of right now since out first contact) I’ll probably be attending http://white-lotus.com/ under Five Formed Fist.
