Dood, I haven’t got any time now, but you’re just scraping tip of the iceberg.
It’s called ‘roricon’ (‘Lolita complex’). Don’t forget you can get maid cafes over here, some of which are quite cool in an odd way, but some of which are only staffed by high school girls. I’ve not been to either kind as yet and of course, I’m going to check them out.
There is a huge ‘aidoru’ (idol) culture over here, which starts with pre-teen girlie bands like ‘Morning Musume’ (‘Morning Daughter’) and goes all the way through to high-school and junior high school targeted manga like ‘Young Jump’ which is filled with young teens in bikinis… and no, it’s not just the JHS kids reading them, but there’s an alarming amount of old businessmen reading them too.
Standard manga all have some element of it… think of all the faves: Azumi, the ninjette, started when she was supposed to be 14 and every book had her getting her kit off at some point… and of course she hasn’t grown significantly adult-looking in the 40-odd copies that have followed; the manga to Ghost in the Shell - the origin of the excellent Mamoru Ishii anime has a few full-colour pages in it, one section of which is given to Kusanagi’s graphic lesbian orgy… now, OK, she’s definitely adult but it just goes to show how mainstream fetish is over here.
Child porn was outlawed in the 90s if I remember, but the yakuza still produce schoolgirl porn AFAIK (there was a dirty little apartment where they were making it in a dirty big Yakuza-owned apartment building in the first place I worked here 8 years ago).
There is only one plus to the whole thing porn industry over here, and that in no way vilifies the dark side: porn stars seem to have no stigma at all attached to them over here, and can quit and get normal or other high-paid entertainment jobs quite easily.
What I can say is, all cultures have disturbing elements, and you shouldn’t let it put you off coming here. There are loads of good things to outweigh the creeps.
And if you do come, I’ll show you round a couple of things in Tokyo…
