I’ve been contacted by a major TV network that is casting for a reality show. They are looking for a martial artist, someone who’s practice has spiritual undertones and is fully dedicated to the arts. You will have to audition of course, but if you make it, this is a paid gig and filming will be for a few weeks in the Spring. If you are interested, send me your resume/website via email - gene@kungfumagazine.com. I will forward serious applicants on to this talent scout and it will be up to that scout whether or not it is worth their time to contact you.

[gets resumé together]
ha, 21 views, how many people sent gene an email but aren’t going to admit it???
Gene’s got my email.
WTF, maybe the producer’s want an old, fat, ugly guy.
I’m a Rookie (2yrs) and they’d probably pass over me…
I’ll just train out of the public eye for now…
Hi Gene, I sent you some info. I’m very interested.
In short. I’ll be 30 in May and have been training 26 of those years. My goal is to be a pro fighter and make it to the UFC, Pride, K-1, ect. Not for a long career, but to demenstrate that internal martial arts are for real and can compete with BJJ and Tai Boxing. Once I do that, I’ll achieve what I want to do.
I’m also a surfer and writer (lifestle) who lives at the beach.
In short, my training does not so much represent the “spiritual”, that was when I was a kid learning Japanese stytles (which I think they do a good job combining the two). At this age, “spiritual” should be evident by ones life choices.
I know cause and effect. I am in motion and focused on achieving an aim: become a great fighter and writer. My next fight is a San Da event in NYC on April 2.
I’m not pretty enough.![]()
Good luck Evolution fist. I hope you succed, and it makes me think I should stop sitting around wasteing my youth. Somehow, I think for this show their gonna pick someone from XMA.
NOTE to ALL
This is a reality show. That means they bring you on to make fun of you. Sort of. You could be the next Paris Hilton. OK, well, maybe not.
Seriously, I’m sure we’ve all watched reality shows before, so you get the idea of what works and what doesn’t by now, right?
To be honest, I’ve shied away from those shows – only really watch Simpons and Seinfeld + Discovery/History Channel.
But, if someone wanted to follow me around to Chinatown to train, hitting my heavy bag and speed bag I rigged under the boardwalk (too loud for landlord) and tape my fights – I’d be more than happy.
I would think winning fights on National TV would only help what I want to do.
I don’t really do much in way of opening myself up to ridicule: I’m not a drinker, I’m not one of those guys that gels his hair and wears tight rubber shirts. Train, write, surf, sex … chill with friends, fish, chess, ect.
I’d also think a crew like that could get some pull to fight some big name folks. That to me, would be interesting. Take a no name, and put him against a big name. This to me embodies martial art: that there is a guy somewhere, right now, doing something other than lifting, running – maybe pumping gas – who is tougher than I am. This inspires training but also humbleness.
I nominate Kung Lek
I nominate Water Dragon. ![]()
where the hell is shaolin tiger?
… he’s an actor to boot.
Let’s get some perspective

I suppose we should overlook posting on this forum?Don’t be put off, this goes for all of us.
Seriously, everyone, this is an earnest cattle call. The show is not about you and not about the martial arts. It is a reality show - a reality show that puts people together in absurd circumstances and films how they interact for the entertainment of the general public. And it is a genuine offer, but with this comes genuine commitment. I am just acting as a scout but have no say on who gets accepted whatsoever. It’ll depend upon the resume you send me, then upon your audition. It’ll depend on you. I’m just opening the door as one of the many complimentary services of our forum here.
FWIW, I’ve received a few emails already. I’m not going to divulge anyone since they’ve all been sent to me earnestly, but I will comment here, just for the entertainment of the general public. A few have been good, real good. A few have been absurdly egotistical with little perspective on reality shows. I’m a bit stunned that some people already think that the show will revolve around them (and that only happens to 15 minute celebs like Paris Hilton). ![]()
Some have had links to websites with pictures but most have not. That’s my bad - I figured most people would know that for a cattle call, you need a head shot, but now I realized that many of you have no idea about the process of an audition. I should have mentioned this. You will be competing for a slot on TV against many other applicants, so the weak submissions will be weeded out immediately. I doubt they’ll even consider you with out a picture. It’s up to you to make the impression and without a head shot, no one will think twice about tossing your application in the can.
The other thing I found interesting is that about one thrid of the submissions are Shaolin-Do people. That should provide some amusing dialog here.

that just aint right gene.
and that’s why i like you.
I automatically was thinking best case scenario, where they kept track of like 4 or 5 amatuer fighters and how they trained and how they faired and then maybe got them a shot to fight some big names. Sort of a documentary on fighters.
That’s completely different than living in a house with a bunch of people arguing over who’s going to tip the pizza boy and when then “Kung Fu” guy doesn’t get his way he either does a jumping spinning kick or fill them with fortune cookie mantras.
Something like this is the last thing Kung Fu needs. I hope they pick someone who leans more towards fisting than lion dancing.
how bout this??? or should I be more serious?
I hope they pick someone who leans more towards fisting than lion dancing.
that’s just wrong.
e-fist, if they were “leaning towards fisting” then that would put the into the fetishist porn category.
which is a no-no on network tv, well, except for cable and even then! ![]()
Gene is this a hollyweird thing?
cheers
well, at least everyone now knows not to be the head if EvolutionFist is the tail.
Hmmm, Now I’m wondering what evolutionFIST really means ![]()
