what can you gain, can this strengthing muscle of internal qi.
Sorry for my lack of experience in this, but would you mind giving it in CHinese ?
baduanjin in pinyin
It’s a great tonifier, and keeps up your flexibility and stance strength. Great morning ritual, but it’s not something that you’ll feel right after like a taebo workout or some such thing. It’s more for longevity of practice. Trust me, when you get near your fourth decade, it’ll make more sense.
40 years?? You serious. Why so long for results?
Yep. Baduenyin is a long term investment.
What it does is it helps the digestive system, improve circulations as well as heart and lung capacity amoung others.
Baiscally, an all round basic health helper.
But really, it is a really really long term investment. So long it has long since out lasted my patience:D
imho
The results can be noticed by the time you are finished learning it. ![]()
as you learn each section the previous one will get practiced more… logically.
Even after only one year of practice you will “notice” improved posture when standing, improved body awareness (especially in breathing).
The long term benefits are of course inarguable. Because if you exercise all your life, your health will be better than if you did not. Even exercises as gentle as many of the gongs are.
I really noticed an improvement in how my back felt after only one year of practice. My sifu taught me other gongs that built on the same things, but I still practice the baduanjin.
peace
no, no sorry
I meant that when you get 40 years old, stuff like baduanjin is more important. It’s easy on the body and can be done by anyone, unlike many of the more rigorous practices. Just like anything in kungfu, you’ll get out of it what you put into it.
BTW, I posted this on the other baduanjin thread in the internal forum, but I documented the Shaolin baduanjin of my master in our May June 2001 issue.

One thing is alot of Qigong is similar to that one. the bookstore I go to has a bunch of Qigong books. Some with a real mystical sort of look and some with more of a health bent, but alot of them are barely varied from those eight movements.
grandmasteroftheobvious indeed
jun_erh: You are totally right. I think it’s because 8 section is such a simple and effective routine, it really gets around. I guess that’s also why I like it so much and thaought it was important to document in that M/J 2000 article. It’s sort of like a fundamental routine, something that can open the door to so many other things or just stand on its own. It’s a perfect example of the beuaty of simplicity.
