15 going to be 16? nah, you’re not too old to study kung fu. study the style the year you were born in? i dont study c0ck style or rooster style. but anyways, find a school that interests you and go for it.
We can’t really pick a style for you. What all is in your area? survey any school in your area that you may be interested in - non-chinese schools also. If all the kung fu schools suck, but there is a good karate school, then you would be better off there.
make a list of all the things you hope to get out of martial arts training. Then, find the school you feel can best help you achieve those goals.
remember one thing also, certain styles are more favorable towards certain body types. it is important to find a good school that you feel comfortable in; so if something feels uncomfortable or hard to do, do your best. now that you have started to gain interest, i hope that it continues to grow. good luck
In case you can’t find any teacher or good school then spend 3 years on “1 step 3 punches - step in, 3 punches to the head, step in, 3 punches to the head, …” and you will find it useful some day.
People would say, “This is exactly what I’m looking for and I’m willing to put effort in it”. A week later they would say, “I’m not in good shape to do this but I’ll come back when I get in better shape”. They never did.
Old Chinese saying said, “Student spent 3 years to look for teacher, and teacher spent 3 years to check on student”. It’s not easy to find a good teacher who is willing to teacher. It’s even harder to find a good student who is willing to train seriously.
A boy went to the temple and request lesson from the monk. The monk told the boy to come back later. A week later the boy came back and the monk still told the boy to come back later. Few months passed, the boy finally asked the monk, “I don’t mind to come back next week, but when are you going to teach me?” The monk said, “I don’t see the strong desire from your eyes yet”. The boy then asked, “What’s strong desire?” The monk leaded the boy to the river and pushed the boy’s head in the water. Two minutes later the monk pulled the boy’s head off the water and asked, “What do you have in mind at this moment?” The boy said, “breath.” The monk said, “When your desire to learn CMA is as strong as you feel like to breath at this moment then come back to me” - a story that Bruce Lee loved to repeated over and over.
