Arizona School

Hi I hate to replay a forum others have posted before. I live in far northwest Phoenix
and am just wondering if anyone knows of any decent kung-fu teachers in this area? I prefer home schools over regular but am looking for anything legitimate. Thanks in advance!

he has trained with some highly skilled individuals (traditional not wushu)

thanks for the reply ngokfei. that school is located in chandler and I am on opposite side of town in the surprise, sun city, peoria, az area. I was wondering if anyone knows of teachers over here?

Don’t you have a car:rolleyes:

man we’ve produced some really lazy people. I used to have to travel 1 1/2 hours by public transportation to get to my teachers school in NYC.- and still had to walk 1/4 mile from the train station.

lazy people

chandler is over 50 miles from where i’m at and I currently use borrowed transportation. One way during some days would be around a 2 hour one way drive and gas is 3.00 a gallon here.

Don’t tell me you drive 50mph;)

A once a week thing shouldn’t be impossible.

Sifu Pena travels along way too training with his teacher too.

My suggestion would be to focus on teaching more to save up for a car and some gas:)

nothing personal on your part but I don’t think we have the same kind of martial arts novice today as we had in the 80’s.

too many excuses and not enough sacrifice. I guess that is why the video market is booming:p

I understand living where you do in Georgia the traffic might not be that bad but Phoenix, AZ is a completely different story. Once a week anywhere isn’t bad. Just because someone wants to find a school closer to them than the opposite side of town doesn’t mean they’re not as dedicated as you are to martial arts.

“You get what you pay for” and that also relates to seeking out those worth paying.

I see from your website that you are already a Martial Arts instructor.

Then that should mean you have experience and would rather spend your money on quality instead of convience.

But from your posting is tends to show that there isn’t anybody local to your worth studying from, or at least not up to your expectations.

anyhow, enough said

hope you find your school/instructor

Actually I do agree with you ngokfei. You definitely do get what you pay for. There are two schools near me shaolinarts.com or azshaolinkungfu.com but both look sketchy. Good lessons are worth traveling for, and I believe it’s better to wait until you can travel there then settle for something local. That website is from the last school I trained at. I’m not an instructor I studied there off and on for about 2 years only. Since then i’ve moved out much further but am going to try and find something or make the drive somewhere like you listed to study. Thanks for your help though!

by just viewing the sites.

#1 appears to be a Shaolin Kempo derivative school

#2 can’t tell as there is no info about the instructor or what system they teach

IMO
Its very hard to tell how good a school is from there website. the prettier the website tells you nothing about how good the instructor is.

The only way to be sure is to visit them at least to get a first impression.

Some of the better sites will atleast have a gallery that would gie you a visual of the school and what their students &/instructor is training in.

best of luck

Yep you’re right ngokfei. I have actually found the best schools to usually be the ones with no website or a very simple one. they usually always list lineage and have pics of the school.

In Arizona.

Richard Ryan is a real nice guy and has been doing RBSD/self defense programs since the late 80’s. I believe his background is with tony blaur and wing chun.

He can provide you with a solid background in real world self defense principles without all the baggage.

I am not sure if this is his specific school now or one of his associates.
