just wonderting if anyone knows gary ?
Trademarked wing chun?
could anyone enlighten me on whether anyone has trademarked any of the wing chun spellings? I read somewhere that Leung Ting trademarked WingTsun (but not Wing Tsun) as a way of identifying his specific interpretation of the system.
Thanks in advance to those that can help.
havent met the man himself, but have met one of his students, an instructor.
he knew what the wing chun ‘moves’ looked like. when he said ‘we like to mix wing chun with kickboxing and grappling’, i think he meant ‘we like to mix kickboxing with tan sao, with kickboxing and grappling’
must be one of the best indeed.
Neo - do i understand correctly you are now an independent wing tsun (or are you now part of the generic chun?) instructor? how about an not-politicaly motivated opinion, who do you think is the best wing tsun person in the uk? and wing chun?

Hold on, (snuffs huge pinch of salt…
)
Off the top of my head, I can think of several UK teachers with over 30 years experience in WC, so I think this highly unlikely. I have never heard of him, until now.
He is one of Sam Kwoks students, who is Yip Chun/Yip Chin lineage. He may be an excellent teacher, may well be 2nd best within that organization, but the WC world, even in the UK is an awfully big place, a lot larger than any one organization. ![]()

I did scoff at that one - fancy being labelled the second best - wouldn’t that p!ss you off!

I am now independent yes, please see my answer in the trademark thread. More to do with financial reasons in terms of the instructor charges. Those that joined EBMAS didn’t feel they reflected the north south economic problems and we difficult for people to pay for once they reached 12th student grade.
as to who is the best wing tsun person in the uk, I take it you mean in terms of skill, as I could be very opinionated if we said in terms of personality, character, etc!
I have by no means met many, although I have a lot of time for sifu mik lane in the midlands, another ex EBMAS and ex NWTO-GB instructor. I’ve heard some good things about Tam Yiu Ming, and understand that there is another HK instructor now teaching in London by the name of Chris Collins I think. Haven’t really seen Nick Smart in action so couldn’t comment, not sure about the “turn it all into english” approach to terminology, etc. seen some of his guys on mpegs and wasn’t too impressed. Just an opinion though.
As for wing chun, there’s a lot of hardworking WC practitioners out there, but I wonder in amazement at what they spend there valuable time training on. I look at what is still being taught in UKWCKFA, Kamon, etc and think why? That’s not knocking the people that run those organisations, people like James Sinclair are superb fighters, but with hindsight and regret i do wish I had not spent my time in those systems. That is the view of many of the original instructors such as Andy ******* and Paul Hawkes and myself share, having spent many years in those organisations. We thank them for taking us on the path that we have followed, but do wish we had taken a different path earlier on to get us where we are today.
That’s just my tuppence, and the more I write this, the more I think i would delete this and start again. I haven’t trained within many organisations, and therefore would not be in a position to make such an informed opinion. as an afterthought, I would like to say that the “true” Ip Ching group led by Ron Heimberger’s lot over here have a lot of good things going on.(not those currently jumping on the band wagon). My old training partner joined them when he moved to Essex and I have pinched quite a few good interpretations along the way that people in NWTO-GB didn’t know while I was with them.
anyway, I’ll probably get someone having a pop at this so enough said for now.
Never heard of him. Who is he?(Briefly?)
he is a wing chun, kick boxing and RSD sifu. for those of you saying WTF is RSD its his own fighting art it means Realaistic Self defence it combines wing chun, kick boxing and ju-jitsu. He is suposed to be the 2nd best WC instructor in the UK i can belive this cuz he always teaches us the realaty aspect of our moves which helps us mainain a good view of the techs and how you should and should not try to apply them thats i suppose is pretty brief i think this is a USA forum maybe thats why no1 has heard of him cuz i live ine ngland and so does he you can visit his web site http://www.rsda.org.uk its not much at the moment but i am a web designer and i have sai di would make one for him for free
