This is something that I’m sure BT could help me with but I wanted to just put this out for others to read. I read in Kumar’s book that Yin Fu practitioners walk the circle with thier finger tips pointing towards the center of the circle, when using the single palm. I remember during the workshop we did do one palm like that, part of the mother palms, but the regular single palm had the fingers pointing toward the sky. Anyway, my question is, is there any truth behind this?
Thanks…
That statement is misleading and untrue. Within Yin style there are many palm method variations.
The Yin style piercing palm takes on many different configurations depending on the practitioner’s body shape and size and specialties of the teacher transmitting the fighting method.
Well, I’m only guessing what you mean by single palm, but many of the mother palms point fingers straight to the center. Dragon and Phoenix with the palms up, snake and rooster with the palms down, lion and unicorn to a varying degree, both up and down. When you say single palm do you mean one palm to the center and the other encircling the heart? My understanding of single or double palm is in focus and intention during a change.
Yes, count, that’s what I meant. One palm in the center and one palm embracing the heart. It’s really difficult to explain things since everyone has a different term for each posture.
Thanks BT for clarifying that for me. I thought that statement was over generalized but wasn’t sure. I’ll see you at the next workshop.
I don’t know if this misses the point, but if you hold your hand in a claw shape then both your fingertips and your palm can face towards the centre of the circle.
