Wing Chun & Wing TSUN

What is the difference between Wing Chun & Wing TSUN?
I train at a traditional Wing Chun school and I noticed a VT or Wing TSUN school in my neighborhood and I was not impressed.

Wing Tsun is the trademark name of the line of Wing Chun headed by Leung Ting. They have their particularities like your line (T.W.C.) has.

“I train at a traditional Wing Chun school and I noticed a VT or Wing TSUN school in my neighborhood and I was not impressed.”

Not impressed by the training??

Was the WT teacher Kirk Johnson?

Or Mike Palmer??

Go see Mike Palmer then come back and post.

wing chun got changed to ving tsun because in those days a toilet was called a water closet (wc) so senior members of yip mans schools changed it to Ving Tsun. Leung ting branched off and wanted to set himself apart so he trade marked Wing Tsun.

why would you not be impressed. its shouldnt matter if there are other schools around unless you are worried they are better then yours.people change the name all the time just like “Traditional wing chun” what makes it more traditional then our styles, i dont know but im sure it wasnt called that 100yrs ago so even your name has changed. Just remember its not the name or who taught them its what they can do.

Don’t fret, and don’t judge Wing Chun by one school. There are many Wing Chun schools that teach principles and the actions that they perform do not reflect the principles that they say they are following. This is quite common for many other Martial Art Styles, also.

I have heard through the grapevine that many of the true Martial Arts have not been truly passed down in it’s integral tradition!!! Especially in mainland China.

The true traditional Martial Arts are contained by few people. You will be able to notice them however since they are readily visible once you have experienced a non traditional Martial Art.
Another reason that you may find not so impressive martial arts, is that shortly after Bruce Lee died and the craze began, naby so/so Martial Art practitioners started to hop on the bandwagon and teach even though underqualified.
Hope this Helps!!!
