William Fairbairn

Before he went on to co-create the famous Fairbairn-Sykes Combatives program for the Allies during WWII, he studied Pakua and Judo. His combative system favored striking over grappling and had as one of its signature attacks the palm strike to the chin (referred to as a chin-jab). Does anybody know how much pakua he learned?

I don’t get mad.
I get stabby.

It seems to me I read something about Fairbairn in one of Robert Smith’s books, he was with the Shanghai Police. Smith described his methodology to be simply a series of techniques. No concept of spiral, structure or change. My guess is that he didn’t really learn any Baguazhang, but maybe got an application or two from somewhere.
