Why are the forms in Chinese Martial Arts so long even in southern styles like Wing Chun and Southern Mantis the forms are so long when i look through my Wing Chun and Southern Mantis books the forms are so long ? How could anybody possibally use all these things in the forms in a street fight ? Or do you pick out what you need from the forms to use in a confrontation in the sreet or whatever the situation is ? Then there is the principals and concepts that you must apply what if you dont have the time to apply the principals and concepts to the street fight or the situation that you are in such as what kind of fist you might use for the situation
Oh god, he’s right. Maybe that’s the reason WC has been losing ufc matches.
They couldn’t decide which Wing Chun fist to use. There’s just so many to choose from…
FireHawk… Thats some funny stuff… I think I’m going to read it a couple more times… it makes me feel better about my self.
I need to go through there and put in proper grammar, I got no idea what he just said.

There that should do it.
I would say that they are long because students are lazy.
So a Student if told to do a Form 3 times he will do it 3 times regardles of length.
So in order to get Students to train a lot we need longer forms.
Seeya.
P.S.: This argument is not just my own, but has been used by one famous Master previously when asked the same question about the new Form he had created.
FH- The forms are long for the same reason dictionaries are long. A reference makes things easier to remember. The same way you wouldn’t enter into a conversation and blurt out every word in the dictionary, you wouldn’t enter into a fight and blurt out every motion in the WCK sets. Just as you pick the words needed for each sentence when and how they are needed, you pick the motions for a fight when and how they are needed. (though people typically get more practice talking
)
RF- LOL! Sounds like he was having a little fun! Reminds me of an old friend who had 100s of forms in his system and when I asked why, he said in the old days there was no TV and they needed something to keep themselves busy. 8)
