Personally I do not wear any kind of suit as I am not chinese, so I tend to wear T-shirt & jogging bottoms. Or if I am grappling or hard sparring then just Gi pants and bare chested (The only reasons I wear these pants is because they are hard wearing and not restrictive) .
Red Fists Why do you feel the need to where a suit when practing Taiji? For me its about whats going on inside not how I look on the outside.
But I hope you find a the suit you are looking for.
At the Kwoon we also normally practice inTrack suit pants and T-Shirts.
One reason is that I got long limbs and most japanese got rather short ones.
At the moment the suit I got is THE BIGGEST available size(L), and the shoulders are stretching bad.
Even my Office Shirts/Suits are custom tailored.
So most shirts and pants are way too short for me. And don’t even talk about getting decent sized shoes.
That is the reason, also I need a suit for when we do public Demos which happen about 3~4 times a Year.
Apart from that I agree with you about apoearance.
Check Kung Fu Magizine.. Jonie makes a high quality silk suit and will custom tailor.. BLT makes some very good general purpose suits and their X-Large is great for making tents in a pinch..
Aside from that, what one wears is a personal choice.. that another finds fault or has a problem with culture bias.. well, that’s just their own problem.. enjoy your choice of clothing, the only statement it makes is that you chose it.. Personally, if i could wear my uniform everywhere, i would.. it is supremely comfortable, very durable.. and if everyone wore them, we might lose some of the prejudices..
Nothing wrong with wearing excentric clothing and silk suits. Promote the image you want to promote, and be comfortable with the image others are promoting, we each live our own tao.
man why are you worried about silk stuff! hardcore china! haha just get something oldschool and modest i guess. suits are good but you don’t wanna get too fancy w/ the silk unless you’re competing or performing
