I think there are two approaches:

There are many answers to this question. Are you training the form or performing the form?
There are many sublevels of practise one could and should get into with emphasis on a multitude of ‘focuses’.
When I perform a form, I do not focus on anything.
Hypothetically, I am engaged in combat so I am just there, so to speak. The pattern or sequence of movements are preset, but each move denotes a fluid interchange of action/reaction of that engagement or performance.
