I can’t remember. Weird, huh?

I don’t think being a taiji guy and a shuai chiao guy are mutually exclusive. What makes you think you aren’t a taiji guy anymore?

CSN is correct.
Not sure, I just don’t feel like it anymore. I’m operating under a different set of principles now.

what? I dont understand this post??? Are u only training Shuai Shiao now? U think taiji sux?
I think taji combined with Shuai Shiao would be a lethal combo.

hmmm…do you still do your taiji forms?

Chang Style taiji (my main thang) is taiji combined with shuai chiao. If you can find a teacher, I bet you’d really dig it. Shifu Paul Hwang at Tai Chi People sells a video of the short form. He’s a terrific teacher, but can’t vouch for the quality of the video.

Nope, not running the forms anymore. There’s still some initial yielding in what I do. But I’m not really leading or following anymore. I’ve become much harder now and prefer to tear people off their root and force the advantage vs. waiting. It’s like a night and day difference to me.

Hmmm…sounds like you really aren’t a taiji guy anymore then.

Sounds more to me like you never understood what it was to be a Taiji guy in the first place. Good Shuai Jiao is chock full of the application of the principles of Taiji. If you believed (and I don’t know if you did or not) that all there was to being “a Taiji guy” was performing forms or that it required you to always apply yielding, then you were simply in error.
No, that wasn’t my impression. But what I’m doing now is definately different. Much more aggresive.

Sounds like you’re playing the “young man’s game” for now. You’ll probably build some good strong muscles that you can still use when your “Taiji” days catch up to you.
I’m sure the principles will creep back in once you’ve got a solid grasp of the Chuai Chiao stuff.
Only then you will achieve “The Glow” ![]()
BTW, your new signature is much better than the last one, although I did enjoy the goofiness.

What you are looking at is the difference in technical essence between Zheng Manqing Taiji and the Chang style.
There are Taiji principles inherent in the Chang Shia, but it is not interpreted the same.
For that matter, the interprestation of Taiji principles vary widely between Chen, Yang, Zheng Manqing, Wu, Sun and Chang styles.
It is also based on where you are in your training, and how your instructor chooses to arrange the information.
I’d say you never stopped being a Taiji guy.

Sounds like you have abandoned the near seek the far.

I think this is okay.

Doesn’t Tai Chi have a lot of Shuai Jiao in it? I mean most styles contain Ti, Da, Shuai, Na… right?
Well, I guess I’ll have to go with the flow for now. Shaolin Dynasty, I understand you’re coming to the seminar next month? I’ll show you the difference if you make it. It has more to do with strategy and set up than actual technique.

Well I was seriously considering coming but I never got the address or times or anything else but the cost. You can email it to me
Just as an aside, where the heck did you get the impression that real Taiji wasn’t brutally aggressive?
Why from my teachers of course. Maybe you should take this argument up with them.

Seminar?
What kind of seminar? As you know, I live in the area. You could email me at fajingk@yahoo.com
