There’s Jet Li’s Shaolin Temple. There is a guy who played the Modern WuShu Manits. But then that’s Movie Fu.

2- Thundering Mantis
3- Death Duel of Kung Fu
4- Eagle Claw
5- SLeeping Fist
6- Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow
7- My Young Auntie (Only in the opening credits Liu Chia Liang / Lau Kar Leung does part of Bung Bo)

Jet Li’s “Shaolin temple 2” also has some mantis. The “wushu” mantis guy on there comes from a traditional background and is very very very good. Lots of ging.

Mantis in Movies (reply to CrazyDan’s Query)
More movies with Mantis in them are as follows:
1. Marvelous Stunts of Kung Fu (the Hero’s style).
2. The Seven Commandments of Kung Fu (Both the Hero/Main Villian’s style,although the Hero is
using Qi Xing Mantis).
3.The Five Masters of Death (one of the five main
Villian’s style).
3. The Drunken Master 2(Dance of the Drunk
Mantis)the main villian’s style.
And at least 20 others that I can’t remember right now, but I will continue to post the as I remember them.

Tai Chi II also has the same mantis guy from Shaolin Temple Doing Mantis. There was a scene in Prodigal Son where one of the bad guys was also using mantis.

The mantis “guy” from Shaolin Temple (1981, Li Lianjie), Taichi 2, and a dozen other movies, is Yu Hai (Cantonese, Yu Hoi). I hear he is teaching somewhere in Shandong, when he is not busy in the movie biz.

“Some more Mantis in movies”
CrazyDan,
Here are some more movies that have Mantis in them:
1. Mantis and the Falcon Claw(kind of cheesy, but it has it’s moments).
2. Dragon Fist(Jacky Chan, but the villian is using Mantis).
3. Eagle’s Claw( the Villianous clan’s style, but the Hero learns some Mantis in order to defeat them).
I will post more as I remember them.

shaolin mantis with david chiang (shaw bros) is probably the most definitive… i didn’t think much of the mantis techniques in “dance of the drunken mantis”… the shaw bros movie “invincible shaolin” has some southern mantis in it, i think there’s also a mantis guy in the movie “7 grandmasters”. mantis seems to be a popular style for bad guys in movies 🙂
