What is your sifu/simo degree?

OK… you got me there… what i should have said my master is a female… therefore she would be called simo… my master simo/shihan happens to be a 10th degree… i know that rank isn’t everything but, it helps people put into perspective how long that the indivdual has put into the art… any of your comments would be greatly enjoyed…

how many degrees are there?

Degree???

Hello,

I don’t think there is any AGREED upon method of ranking Sifus or their wives, (SiMo). Each organization or group will have a different way of looking at things. Some people have no rank structure other than student and master/teacher. Others will have a variety which is similar to Karate belt rankings.

The important thing to consider is whether the Sifu has your respect and can guide you on the desired path. If this is the case then does it really matter what others consider his “degree” to be?? Also, unless their wife is actively teaching the art there really is no reason to rank her or attempt to rank her. I belive that WSL’s wife is involved with one of his students classes in Hong Kong but not active in the art. Perhaps it is much like an honorary college degree. A nice sign of respect but of no real value pertaining the art itself.

Peace,

Dave[B]

Coming in in the middle of this and not sure of the context, but Simo is not the title of a femal Sifu. A female Sifu is still called Sifu (using the generic version, teacher/teacher rather than the teacher/father). Simo is your Sifu’s wife.
